TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- A recent magazine survey in Taiwan says many young people would be unwilling to go to battle to fight for the island's self-rule if China attacked.

The trend is in sharp contrast to the time before Taiwan and China began their process of detente.

Not many youngsters are interested in freedom anymore. As long as they can text, sext and tweet, they’re happy as can be.

The Red China they face today is less terrifying than what their parents faced in 1961. In some ways.

Nabbed by soul humanist snatchers.

Amorality is the death of freedom and humanism is the new global culture. People have to hold Western analytical skills, values and ethics to have Western freedom. the culture of humanism goes with any form of enslavement but not freedom.

Very well put. Brainwashing and removing the father and mother away from the formative years (0-7) destroys the individualism and self worth created so well in early America when there was no government forced “education” and the parents formed the worldview with no “perceptions” pumped into the heads of children by mass media Satanic immoral agitprop 24/7. John Stuart Mill is correct about government run education creating slaves and the Leviathan that will eventually destroy all freedom of the individual Founding Fathers were absolutely correct.

We need to destroy the DOE for starters. Immediately before most minds of our children are corrupted.

The youth of today hav had it to soft for to long, the entitled generation has no stomack for a fight, no mather where they are from, try to raise an army to fight from the OWS crowd, most of our military people are from the hearthland, not to many from the big citys gethos

“Freedom” to that generation equates to how many electronic toys and apps they can amass to amuse themselves. There`s little difference vs. their shiftless American counterparts.

The taiwanese brought it on themselves — they are the largest investor on the mainland and much of the impetus to the mainland economy comes from them. We should move our bases out of Taiwan and leave them to the consequences of their folly

Taiwan is economically integrated with Communist China. Just look at Apple where the R&D goes on in Taiwan but the manufacturing is done in China under the Taiwanese company FoxComm

I live in the Midwest. I am a Navy veteran. My son is active duty Army. My other son is applying for ROTC scholarships. I was recently at my sons high school in the councelors office and they paused to say the Pledge of Allegiance. There is a military base about 30 miles away and the community is openly patriotic.

All that being said, only about 1% of students volunteer for the military. I noticed also, last year in my companies graduate recognition booklet of kids and employees that there was NO ONE joining the military. That was the first time I saw that.

The fact is, most kids (and adults for that matter) don’t recognize how fragile freedom is and that it needs people willing to step up and defend it. Too many people just assume that freedom will always be or that someone else will always be there to protect or provide for them. While I think America is better off then most places, in terms of currently being able to stand up to a known enemy, it too is slipping down the slope of apathy.

yes. Why do we bother to defend them when they have already made themselves a part of the mainland?

Only in their wishful thinking is China less terrifying than the one the Taiwanese youths’ parents (grandparents) faced in 1961.

China will simply buy out Taiwan without even firing a shot.

The Taiwanese see how China treats Hong Kong, and most of them figure, if Taiwan gets the same consideration, as Hong Kong does, it wouldn’t be all that bad.
