Taiwanese youth losing taste for China fight

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- A recent magazine survey in Taiwan says many young people would be unwilling to go to battle to fight for the island's self-rule if China attacked.

The trend is in sharp contrast to the time before Taiwan and China began their process of detente.

Taiwan is seen as the rebellious province. Taiwan has its own military. Taiwan is a real plum right out there in the South China Sea just waiting to be plucked.

Sure, there are Taiwanese who may choose to wishfully think they are just another Hong Kong to mainland China. Wishful thinking and $NT120 will get a small mocha at Nan Hai Starbucks.

That's why I added the caveat "In some ways". And the face of china is much less terrifying. They are better at hiding their dark side.

I am very clear on understanding the dangers of china. Especially if they gain the high ground.

The fact is, most kids (and adults for that matter) don’t recognize how fragile freedom is and that it needs people willing to step up and defend it.

Or, they have been propagandized since childhood to believe that our military exists to impose our will on others.
