That sounds like turning "The Chicago Way" back on his butt.
"Eh... No more American troops have 'accidents,' yuz unnerstan what I'm sayin'?"
I love it and hope there are some military brass with balls of the same to slap that in his face.

Space-based lasers would have trouble getting through the atmosphere - and would violate at least one treaty.
Rods from God have the same treaty-violation problem as the lasers, and would be trackable on the way down.
Now, a laser on a plane....

Allow me to answer. US bases in Germany are used for staging and logistical support of missions in the middle east and east Asia.
That's the main reason. The other is having nuclear weapons in Germany without Germany having nuclear weapons.
The Germans, of course, enjoy the economic, political, and military benefits of US bases.
All of that's important, but not the main criteria. Take economic benefits: They are huge for east European countries like Moldova, where the dollar is still worth a lot and local labour is cheap. Germany is one of the world's great economic powers (1.4 trillion $ in exports alone last year), so while there is a positive effect for the local economy where soldiers spend money, it's negligable compared to the economy as a whole, plus providing security for these installations is expensive, as German wages are on the higher side.
Political benefits are also a mixed bag. While American soldiers were always popular in Germany (especially compared to les Francais and the Russkis), having foreign military (and a former occupier at that) in the country is never really something one loves. The major benefit is another: Without the US Germany would have to develop its own nuclear weapons program, which would energize the radical left and create social unrest. So Germany is happy not having to get the bomb itself and the US is happy to have one fewer nuclear power to worry about.

2ndDivisionVet: Why do we still have military bases in Germany? Answer: Because of its sublime infrastructure, convenient location with regard to both Russia and the Middle East, the friendly locals who don't mind the foreign military
Good answer.

Neocons and empire building, really? You sure you didn’t mean to post that on DU?
To: Boogieman
I don’t post at DU. I’ve been posting here for over 10 years. Now piss off.

I wonder what weapon delivery system the IDF is using against the Iranian nuke sites? Stealth drones dropping stealth missiles against critical nodes?
I was wondering if there was such a thing as a stealth missile that couldn't be tracked by radar. Then, you could just launch, say, from out in the ocean where no one might see the launch, and just deny doing anything.

Iranians think Americans are cowards who cut and run on the sight of blood. They feel if we take a few hits our citizens will crumble like they did during the Vietnam war - and protest to ‘bring the troops home’. In short they see us as cowards. They might be in for a big bad surprise if Obama’s NOT reelected...

I would think that if they can get SAM’s in the country, they could certainly shut down flights until usaf feels the vulnerable perimeter area (no idea how far out it extends) is clear. This would require clearing building by building, I would assume, and would take some time.

As I understand it, the original use of “neocon” is an anti-Semetic slur.

Logistics to the Middle East and forward serious hospitals much closer than the U.S.A.
There isn’t much left there, militarily. I think virtually all of the Cold War heavy armor is gone, for instance.

Barak, who is a leftist secular Zionist, is supposedly advocating hitting Iran. I’m not sure if Netanyahu supports this or not. A Mossad general opposes the idea. Israeli internal conflicts erupting in public this way can lead to nothing good. Get it together, Israel. If our SECSTATE was able or even competent, Israel would not be acting so crazy.
