George Will: 'You can associate many things with Mr. Gingrich, but wisdom isnít one of them'
The Daily Caller ^ | December 2, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 12/02/2011 9:52:30 AM PST by Rufus2007

Conservative pundits have been lining up to voice their frustration over the possibility that former Speak of the House Newt Gingrich could wind up being the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. And you can add Washington Post columnist George Will to that list.

On Friday’s “The Laura Ingraham Show,” Will responded to Gingrich’s recent remarks that being the smartest isn’t enough, but instead to be the wisest.

“Mr. Gingrich said it’s not enough that he is the smartest guy in the room, he also has to be wise,” Will said. “Now you can associate many things with Mr. Gingrich, but wisdom isn’t one of them. Surely the Republican nominating electorate should understand the fact that people have patterns. Don’t expect the patterns to go away. Expect the patterns to manifest themselves again. If Newt Gingrich has any pattern at all, and he does – it is a pattern of getting himself into trouble because he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.”

You can probably find equally balanced hit pieces at HuffPo.

Strange - Will is a big fan of amnesty himself, so he should be right there with Newt.

Will has been writing the same column for twenty years now - he just changes the proper nouns.

Ironic to hear these comments from a man who also magines himself to be the smartest man in the room. We need to put Will and Gingrich in the same room - and then lock the door.

Will also noted Gingrich’s association with “the catastrophic government commitment to ever cheaper mortgages.”

“Newt Gingrich was a willing, rented spokesman for the housing crisis that we’re now living through,” Will said.

Will is right here.

Will also chalked up Gingrich’s support of ethanol as one of his poor policy choices.

“Life’s full of close calls,” Will said. “Ethanol isn’t one of them.”

Will is right here too.

Why is it when I hear these inside the beltway pundits rip on anybody but “the chosen one” (Romney) I can’t help but picture the famous crying “Brittany Spears” guy on Youtube screaming, “Leave Romney alone! Leave him alone! It’s his turn! He earned the nomination, but all you haters want to do is steal it from him!”

Choke on it Will. You, and everyone else knows that Newt is the only candidate that will take on Obama TOE-TO-TOE and put him down flat. Romney cannot say a word about Obamacare since he too is a socialized medicine liberal.

And all the crap about amnesty. What is important is that Newt wants the BORDER CLOSED as step one, which must happen. Say what else you want. It does not matter.

George Will is also very Anti-Romney.

He is frustrated (rightly) that, ahead of a hugely important election against a weak incumbent, the GOP primary is coming down to Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Depressing.

I am not thrilled about Newt as a candidate, but Newt threatens Will’s statist choice Mittens and that no matter who it is cannot be allowed to happen. Mittens is the nominee according to the elites or they will have a bloody meltdown.

George Will was one of those who still hates Newt from the Impeachment days. That, and the Contract With America.

But I am still confused why so many so called “Conservatives” are on the bandwagon with the media to destroy our most talented and experienced candidates who can beat Obama.

Msm, serial destroyers.

The hit jobs they put on Cain are brutal, but since Herman had this White woman as a 13 year friend, that his wife didn't know about, I'm glad it came out now instead of Herman getting the nomination and then getting blindsided by his financially strapped friend, that he has been giving money to {without his wife knowledge}.

That's the killer point, Gloria didn't know this woman was on the planet, and there is no explaining that little oversight.

I don't know if Herman can sell that line to his wife, but as an ex-Hermanator, I ain't buying it.

I bought the first group as being hit jobs, but giving money secretly to some woman, who was "just a friend in need" for 13 years...NFW.

It may even be true, and Herman can be a Saint, but it ain't sale-able. It is over for Cain as a candidate for President, he better try and maintain the home front.

Obama, a floundering naif who thinks ATMs aggravate unemployment, is bewildered by a national tragedy of shattered dreams, decaying workforce skills and forgone wealth creation. Romney cannot enunciate a defensible, or even decipherable, ethanol policy.

That's a pretty intense slam on both Obama and Mittens.

I didn't know about and I like it. Thanks for posting.

Regards,

TS

If George Will takes a shot at Cain or Bachmann, watch the know nothings or FR yell "Elitist!! Went to college!! Friend of Rove!! Effeminate!! Uses big words!!"

But if he takes a shot at Gingrich, watch them discover a strange new respect for him.

How does one attain ‘wisdom’? By learning from your mistakes. A wise person does this by not repeating their mistakes.
Somehow Will’s comments are making take a second look at Newt. Will has been in DC too long. But this anti-Newt stance will be sure to get him invited to the popular holiday parties.

Which is why it grates me when Will acts as if it’s his place to dump on Newt. No, it’s someone who actually gets it most the time, that should. And these days, Will simply doesn’t qualify.

As it is, it looks like he’s more interested in merely taking down one more guy, so someone else he favors more, and may be even worse can get the nomination.

I just don’t trust Will anymore, sorry to say.

Self-evident truths: 1. The Republican nominee for President will not be an ideal candidate for most of us; 2. The next POTUS will either be the Republican nominee or Barack Obama. I’d vote for a one-legged lesbian troll if that was the best way to remove Obama’s hands from the steering wheel, so by that standard Newt will suffice. It’s a distressingly low standard, though.
