Rove Surveys the Volatile GOP Candidate Landscape (Palin endorsement better then "birther" Trump
On the Record with Greta Van Susteren ^ | December 2, 2011 | video interview

Posted on 12/03/2011 9:31:52 AM PST by Seizethecarp

@ 5:50 min.: Greta: "...If you were running for office, which would you prefer..which would you think would be strategically valuable for you tonight: an endorsement by Donald Trump or an endorsement by Governor Sarah Palin, and why?

Rove: "Governor Sarah Palin. Look, Donald Trump is an interesting guy. He could have brought a lot to the Republican presidential sweepstakes had he been a serious candidate, but you're not a serious candidate if the first issue you chose to emphasize is the "birther" issue that Barack Obama is somehow not qualified to be president because he was somehow not born in the United States. So, Sarah Palin remains a popular figure, particularly in the first state, I mean Iowa, she has some strength, South Carolina she has some strength. In Florida, particularly north to Tampa St. Pete and Orlando she has some strength and I'd much rather have her endorsement."

Greta: Is that the social conservative area you are identifying?

Rove: I think that's part I think also sort of you know American nationalists, people who believe in America and have a great deal of pride and believe that the America that they grew up in is somehow sliding away. Let me say one other thing. She also has not, like Donald Trump, indicated that she might be an independent candidate for president. An endorsement by Trump is sort of gonna be, because of both the "birther" issue and his own declaration that he could be an independent candidate for president, is gonna be a little bit problematic. I mean, uh, you know, she's a much more powerful endorsement.

After dissing Palin for three years, Rove gives her a back-handed compliment by saying her endorsement is now preferable to Trump's...but mostly because Trump is a "birther" and she is not.

IMO, Rove is concerned that Trump will back Perry and that the two of them, backed by Arpaio's posse investigation, will revive the "birther" issue.

Perry just last week received the endorsement of Arpaio whose "posse" is actively investigating Obama's LFBC, SS# and NBC status and is intimating that he has found discrepancies that will be revealed in "early 2012."

Rove is trying to pre-emptively de-legitimize any Trump endorsement which at the same time revives the birth certificate forgery issue. IOW, Rove is anticipating that Obama's BC issues will be brought back by Trump and the candidate that Trump endorses.

Endorsements don’t mean much to me anyway. I just don’t care what the popular kids think.

I’m surprised this RINO dog didn’t say his endorsement was the best.

Didn’t Rove get his start with the late Governor Bill Clements, well before his association with GWB?

Rove thinks Sarah is just fine, just as long as she stays out of it.

By the way, Karl? Where’s the birth certificate? I don’t mean those fake COLBs posted on the internet. Why do you think it’s OK that Obama has hidden virtually ALL of his records, so we hardly know anything for sure?

I know, you’d rather have Obama than Palin, since at least Obama shares a little of the pork. Not much of it—most of it goes to his buddies and the unions—but a little.

And even better, Obama prefers dealing with corrupt Republican insiders behind the scenes, rather than honest ones.

in the current environment....and if Palin wants to someday run for the top slot...she would be wise to keep the birther stuff to herself and let some of her fringe supporters tell the truth...

No, as I recall, he ran President Nixon’s youth campaign at CREEP in 1972.

If Palin had run, she’d probably have the nomination wrapped up by now. :-(

I heard Gov. Palin on Hannity’s radio show. Being the class act she is, she down played the importance of her endorsement. She said that Americans listen and study the issues and make up their minds. She said she never paid attention to endorsements. I agree with the good Governor, but wait Sean failed to ask (and Sarah did not volunteer), is that her endorsement will help with the enthusiasm gap. I was on the Cain Train and now I am on the Newt Wagon. A Palin endorsement would help those of us who went with Newt as Plan B.

"Republican presidential candidate nomination open until Karl Rove decides" .

Rove thinks he's THE kingmaker and king breaker as well as some politico pundits.

IIRC, Rove said he would NOT make an endorsement in this campaign, but would stay in his role as strictly a commentator on FOX.

Just yesterday, Rove very objectively stated that Romney and Newt both had problems with flip-flops, which he correctly identified, showing no hint of favoring one or the other.

Rove’s “objectivity” does not extend to any candidate or endorser, like Trump known to harbor “birther” beliefs...consistent with the apparent FOX News mandate...which Rove unconflictedly backs.

It seems apparent that Rove, Ailes and Murdock regard the “birther” issue as marketing poison for the GOP brand because it would drive away independents needed to get 51% of the vote in crucial swing states.

Rove seems terrified by the possibility that Trump will raise the “birther” issue, perhaps with Perry, when Trump moderates the Dec. 27 debate.

Perry is on record saying that Trump told him in their private meeting that he believes Obama’s LFBC was forged:

Rick Perry, birther?

The Republican White House hopeful said he has “no reason to believe” that President Obama was not born in the United States - but he still isn’t sure if Obama’s birth certificate is legit.

“I don’t have a definitive answer,” Perry said in an interview with Parade magazine, after being pressed for a firm answer on whether he thought Obama was born in the United States.

When the interviewer suggested that Perry has seen Obama’s birth certificate, Perry replied, “I don’t know. Have I?”

The Texas governor said the subject of Obama’s birth certificate came up during a recent wine-and-dine session with GOP kingmaker Donald Trump.

“He doesn’t think it’s real,” Perry said, referring to the long-form birth certificate the White House released in April.

“And you said?” the reporter asked.

“I don’t have any idea,” Perry replied.

“It doesn’t matter,” he added, and calls it “a distractive issue.”

Perry’s nod to the birther movement comes as his campaign continues to lag in primary polls.

Tokyo needs to wise up and realize that Trump’s endorsement is probably more important than Palin’s.
