WUPW, Toledo's Fox News affiliate, is reporting that more people are considering carring a concealed handgun in the wake of two violent encounters.

From the report:

"Frightening that you can't go out in public without having to worry about your safety.late at night,” said Derek Mungons, who lives a few blocks from one of the shooting incidents.

Mungons is glad he got a conceal-carry permit. A 9mm pistol is now strapped to his side.

"I do carry and never thought I would," he admitted. "People seem to have less and less respect for other people's property and lives."

I don’t have CCW. But when I go to downtown Cleveland’s Chinatown, which is in a bad neighborhood, I carry. Better safe than sorry. If I can’t park in a restaurant’s parking lot, I go to a different restaurant. Too bad, because the places with the most Hondas and Toyotas, are the best places to eat.

I’d like to offer some edits:

“Frightening that you can’t go out in public without having to worry about your safety.late at night,”

Middle of the day, lunch time, at your kitchen table eating breakfast. Driving down the road. Getting out to pump gas. Stopping in to get a burger. Pushing a cart down the grocer’s aisles. Walking the dog. Getting your mail...

“Mungons is glad he got a conceal-carry permit. A 9mm pistol is now strapped to his side.”

Two blocks away from the latest murders - You’ll find a guy named Derek Mungons. He’s got a 9 mm strapped to his side. You’ll have to sneak up on him, or take him out from a couple yards. (Thanks for blowing his Conceal cover)

“I do carry and never thought I would,” he admitted. “People seem to have less and less respect for other people’s property and lives.”

I’ve been to Toledo. Unless this article was written in 1967, I don’t believe anything has changed.

If you’re interviewed by anyone about guns, Keep it real general and remember that what you say is about to be in print.

I can’t get a CCW without paying thousands of dollars. I got busted for pot 50 years ago. Never toked again. But that doesn’t matter. I WILL protect myself!

Although I have a CCW permit, I seldom carry. Most places in OH are perfectly safe. However, on the rare occasion I choose to visit downtown Cleveland, I go strapped.

Downtown is safe; it is all the “not so safe” neighborhoods that you have to pass through to get downtown that worry me.

Yeah. The Chinatown neighborhood is surrounded by awful areas. If I have to park on a side street to go to my favorite restaurant, Bo Loong, I ain’t going unarmed. I frequently encounter roving bands of thugs. When I see them approaching, I open my jacket, and put my right hand behind my back. No problems so far.

Sometimes I have breakfast with a few older gentlemen. The other morning as we were standing in the parking lot the subject of guns came up. They were all packing. One of the guys had one of those light framed revolvers. It was a .22 magnum with some kind of robust ammunition. I’ve been around this guy many times and never figured he would be armed. Turns out he has a pile of guns. The holster for the one he had that day was beautiful. He has all his holsters custom made.

I’ve tried all kinds of leather, but nothing beats a Clipdraw on a J-frame for comfort and concealment.

How so? I don't see the connection.

Good move insulting the US Navy SEALS, FBI, US Secret Service, Federal Air Marshals, and Texas Rangers who carry Sig P226s and P229s in 9mm or .357 Sig.

While carrying a gun does increase your ability to defend yourself, it has a much greatery psycological effect. It says: I have responsibility for myself and my actions. The State is not omnipotent, and cannot protect me everywhere all the time. I have to act as a responsible human being.

It also loudly proclaims that the Constitution does means something, and does impose some limitation on the State.

All of those statements directly inhibit nannystate thinking.

That was yesterday’s gun. At the federal level they seem to all be going for Glock .40’s these days. This is a trend, because the feds bought up an s-load of .40 ammo.

I have a Sig P229ST in .40 that I've since switched out to 9mm. A good friend has a Glock G22 which I've tried to warm up to as well.

My favorite calibers are 9mm for carry and gaming and .45 auto for bullseye and casual fun.

Any gun is better than no gun.

A 45 is really nice but most people I talk to don't carry them because they are just too big to easily conceal.

Carrying doesn't work if you don't carry all the time. My wife used to say she would only carry when she went to some place bad. Now that she has a tiny 38 revolver she can carry all the time. I carry a 9mm. After seeing what it does to trees I would hate to get hit with it. My carry ammo is beefed up hollow points, they really hurt. My little single stack is less than one inch thick, has a belt clip built into it. If I'm dressed I'm packin.
