FAA opposition to UAS is in line with their mantra of controlling the skies.
Pretty much a rice bowl mentality. No different than the Forest Service and Park Service having a fit over letting Border Patrol into their areas that are on the border. That attitude spawns smuggling routes where the traffic destroys the countryside, leaving a swath of garbage and setting wildfires to distract authorities.
I'm thinking that's a stretch, but using shotgun blast with bean bags, steel shot and or tear gas is a reasonable assumption.
I dunno, if our liberties were not under such of an assault now days, I wouldn't even be concerned.
It just seems ordinary law abiding citizens are being scrutinized as if we're the suspected terrorist.

I wouldn’t go hiking through a lot of forest service land in California without a gun, and I would have a preplanned egress strategy with members of my group if we stumbled on a grow. It is only a matter of time before some boy scout troop gets attacked by Mexicans in the National Forest.
That may be what the cop chiefs may say, but has anyone heard any explaination of how zero-video helps keep LEO safe. I realize it may keep em safe from law suits, but just wondering, let’s say “what the claimed legal excuse” is.
Don’t even have a video cam, other than my “old” cell phone, but am tempted to test this video prohibition to find out.
If you had an infrared line scanner that you could put on a high altitude UAV. Would anybody here have an issue with using that in the state and national forests to find marijuana grows?
That kind of data is definitely inadmissible if used on a search of private property.
I know someone who goes into random spots in the (non-CA)NFs occasionally for work. They go as a team of two and one has a dog that walks point. My recommendation is that both humans carry, but it’s a work in progress.
There’s apparently plenty of satellite scans in many bands.
