Sources: Virtually no chance McCain will endorse Gingrich

Sen. John McCain, who won the Republican nominee for president in the 2008 election, has largely avoided commenting on the 2012 field of candidates. But he’s gearing up to finally endorse one of them. Sources tell The Hill it won’t be Newt Gingrich.

Republican sources familiar with his thinking say he will probably endorse his onetime political enemy, Mitt Romney.

There is virtually no chance, sources say, that he will pick former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who has surged into the lead in polls, stoking consternation among his ex-colleagues on Capitol Hill.

The reason: the same one that keeps coming back up. Electablity.

There is growing concern among many of McCain’s Senate Republican colleagues on whether Gingrich is electable in a match-up against President Obama.

We don’t care who McCain will endorse. He’s a non-player in my opinion. The nice-guy republicans who refuse to fight obama are irrelevant this election cycle. We need a fighter. Obama is out there in a different city every day bashing republicans and they do nothing but take it.

McCain's inner weasel comes out again. The man is a creep and should've quit at the end of his last term.

The good news is that Obama blew it, he could've had McCain as his buttboy pushing socialist policies within the GOP. But Obama wouldn't or couldn't 'lower' himself to butter up McCain. Even in the face of his looming loss in 2012, he's above flattering the weasel of Phoenix.

Thank God for small victories.

No question. Romney not only was a good soldier for McCain in 2008 (which I don’t mind a bit, by that point) but also in 2010 in the McCain’s reelection bid (which was Mitt going WAY “above the call of duty”). No way McCain endorses anyone but Mitt unless/until Mitt were to drop out.

This is the biggest endorsement I’ve seen yet to influence me to vote for Newt in the primary.

Now that is a good thing! Keep McCain out of the 2012 exection so we can win it. Get McCain involved and we will loose the election for sure.

I suspect McCain would prefer a candidate more like his old ideology and temperament match, Colin Powell—maybe M. Romney. A Colin Powell-like candidate would be a big boost to the Republicans in 2012, why, he was the conscience of America’s middle, an antidote to extremism, and was a big boost to the party and a supporter of McCain’s in 2008—wait, now that I recall, didn’t Powell support... /just kidding

McCains endorsement of Roney SHOULD be the kiss of death for Romney’s campaign.

McCain will endorse whoever he thinks Obama can beat in 2012.

Congratulations. We have a winner!

Whatever happened to the "MAVERICK" as he was so fondly refered to by the MSM pushing for his nomination back during the Bush administration?

Go away John, far far away and take your ignorant daughter with you....you and your family are beginning to mirror the herpes virus...........Irritating as hell and you can't get rid of it/them.

McCain seems likely to endorse Romney, not Newt. I don’t see what a McCain endorsement gains anyone!
