What If Tim Tebow Were a Muslim?
FOX News ^ | December 07, 2011 | Jen Engel

Posted on 12/07/2011 5:07:21 PM PST by presidio9

Imagine for a second, the Denver Broncos quarterback is a devout follower of Islam, sincere and principled in his beliefs and thus bowed toward Mecca to celebrate touchdowns. Now imagine if Detroit Lions player Stephen Tulluch and Tony Scheffler mockingly bowed toward Mecca, too, after tackling him for a loss or scoring a touchdown, just like what happened in October. I know what would happen. All hell would break loose.

Stinging indictments issued by sports columnists. At least a few outraged religious leaders chiming in on his behalf. Depending on what else had happened that day, they might have a chance at becoming Keith Olbermann's Worst Person In The World. And there would be apologies. Oh, Lord, would there be apologies -- by players, by coaches, possibly by ownership with a tiny chance of a statement by NFL commish Roger Goodell.

You cannot mock Muslim faith, not in this country, not anywhere really.

It is primarily a respect issue, because religion is sacred and should be off limits. Yet when Tulloch and Scheffler dropped to a knew to mock how Tebow prays -- an action known as "Tebowing" that has gone viral among the public, too -- we yawned and told Christians to lighten up. We blamed Tebow for making a show of honoring God rather than himself in moments of joy. We excused them because Tulloch said he was mocking "Tebowing" not God.

Because ridiculing a man who chooses to honor God is so much better, right?

Nor has the ridicule abated as Tebow grows in football prominence. He is 6-1 since being named Denver's starting quarterback, has engineered a string of amazing comebacks, is improving as a passer and many still rip him for pointing to heaven as a

How is it goofy to ask why an article from FOX news seems exactly like an article that was posted here a week ago? Could be two writers making a similar point, or could be a local article picked up by the national site, or it could be a bit of plagiarism. I’ve seen Freeper articles picked up with no credit given, was just curious what the deal was with this.

Here is my suggestion: Put your deerstalker on, find the plagarized article, and expose Jen Engle for the terrible person that she is.

I think she is making an interesting point here. I don't remember anyone else having the balls to make it.

And just how have the Lions been doing since they did their little sick blasphemy in Oct?

Divine justice?

Anyone see ESPN this afternoon? As they went to a break, the camera panned around the studio and all of the employees were on their knees Tebow style... I turned the bastards off at that point.

Maybe you should have watched a little more and learned the context. ESPN devoted an hour show today to Tim Tebow, not to mock him but to explore his success on and off the field and the impact he has. Not everyone talking about Tebow or imitating the "Tebowing" is doing it to mock him. He himself has never complained about it.

If he were a muzzie there would be NO expression of religion they would castigate him for —they would say nothing.

In fact, broadcast executives would visibly COMPETE with one another to fire, suspend, or fine ANY person casting aspersions upon a visibly, “Muzzie Tebow”.

They’d order engineers to cook up little TV graphic asides that highlighted and praised him for his deep spiritualism and they would play those when MuzzieTebow scored or was seeing braying to the moon, or whatever.

They’d conjure up football-y specials on fictional crap about how Islam Has Always Been in America —hey, the President said it, right...?!

Pusillanimous NFL Broadcasters would HELP MuzzieTebow be MORE muzzie.

The divide between players and mgmt might be even bigger than between street cops and Police Chiefs.

The author’s making an apples to oranges comparison.

Christianity is a religion. Islam is not.

If Tebow were a Muslim he'd be buggering lesser men and raping women. It was just not meant for him to be a Muslim.

I’m hearing sports announcers standing up for the guy. Kudos to acknowledging this simplest comp given to humanity.

Screw the politically correct be-otches that uh... well, just bitch about Christianity. Anytime one of those bigoted jackwagons snipe at Tebow’s Christianity, my advertising contributions go elsewhere.

ESPN is stupid enough to have devised a rating system that places Tebow behind Kyle Orton.

Agree, but I don't thnk the entire working staff, genuflecting Tebow style with a pic of Tebow on the background screen was done with respect in mind...

Given the choice the left always seems to choose evil. If Tebow were a muslim they would be falling all over themselves with praise.

9 out of 10 guys hit a homer and point to heaven.

9 out of 10 guys make a good play and point to heaven.

nearly every Latino in baseball crosses himself in the batter's box.

What is up with the Tebow hatred for taking a knee?

How many football p layers take a knee after a TD? Anyone remember Mark Bavaro taking a knee after every TD he scored? Which he did!

Petty jealousy because they will never see Tebow's name on a police report for DUI, involved in a murder, shooting, hit and run, late night bar brawl, domestic disturbance, aka wife beating, drug suspension, or TAUNTING!

Then we'd still see a story every week about how he's "persecuted for his faith", only it would be libs writing them instead of conservatives.

I put my deerstalker on as you suggested and I Found It

Its almost the exact same article she wrote back in November that was posted her on FR.

Lets compare:

November article:

The only one who looks good in all this — maybe too good for some — is Tebow. I find it especially telling that Tebow rarely lectures and does not fight back. He did not create Tebowing, nor is he responsible for it blowing up hipster style. It was kind of cool, I thought, after hearing a kid had said he was “Tebowing” while getting chemo. Tebow is just a guy with the good sense to say thanks. Instead of taking his cue, we mock his faith. And that says more about us, none of it good.

I guess it wasn't a goofy question after all huh?

In the end I'm still pulling for the Steelers, but it does really piss me the way they pick on this kid. I'm not even an evangelical type, but I'd love to see the kid win out for the rest of the season* just to stuff it up their anti Christian-PC butts.

* Unless its Denver v Pittsburgh in the AFC Playoffs.
