Holder, Grilled on Gun Inquiry, Says He Won’t Resign
NY Times ^ | December 8, 2011 | CHARLIE SAVAGE

Posted on 12/09/2011 11:43:10 AM PST by neverdem

House Republicans pummeled Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Thursday over the disputed gun-trafficking investigation called Operation Fast and Furious, accusing the Justice Department of hiding the truth and lying to Congress in a slugfest of an oversight hearing.

Mr. Holder denied the allegations and declared that he would not resign.

Mr. Holder had testified about Fast and Furious on three prior occasions, and the hearing before the House Judiciary Committee produced few revelations. But it was the most politically charged session yet, as one Republican after another tore into the attorney general.

Representative F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin, for example, called for “heads to roll” and threatened to impeach unspecified Obama administration officials. Representative Darrell Issa of California pronounced Mr. Holder in “contempt of Congress” for refusing to turn over certain internal departmental e-mails. Representative Ted Poe of Texas suggested that Justice Department officials should be prosecuted for manslaughter for recklessly allowing guns to fall into the hands of criminals.

In his opening statement, Mr. Holder suggested that critics were playing “politically motivated ‘gotcha’ games” and trying to “score political points.”...

--snip--

But Mr. Holder snapped near the very end, after Mr. Issa, who has been a leader of the Fast and Furious investigation, compared him to John Mitchell, the Nixon administration attorney general who went to prison for his role in the Watergate scandal.

“The reference to John Mitchell — think about that,” he said. “At some point, as they said in the McCarthy hearings, have you no shame?”

The comment was a paraphrase of a famous 1954 rebuke of Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin Republican who rose to fame and power by accusing military and government officials of Communist sympathies, destroying careers and reputations. Mr. Issa shot back the same question: “Have you no shame?”...

Words have meaning and under stress when there is little time to slow down and think carefully about what is said, facts leak out. One such moment occurred near the end of Holders testimony in response to a question concerning a letter and who knew what when, Holder said that knowledge about gun walking did not become known until "Fast and Furious" had been exposed!

He used the word exposed as if accidentally revealing the hidden truth that this was an Obama operation from the start that was exposed and not some rogue BATF operation. The right questions are finally being asked. Why has nobody been fired? Why has the persons responsible who allowed guns to walk and gave the okay or signed off not been identified after a year? Why were the responsible mid level BATF Arizona staff moved to Washington D.C. and promoted instead of fired? Why has Holder delegated management decisions and operational decisions over to the Inspector General instead of directing his own staff to clean house and get to the bottom of the actions that killed people, broke U.S. laws, broke international laws??????

This SOB is covering up all over the place and somebody needs to be accountable and soon!

Can’t resign until they have a suitable replacement...
or they can plant him....
because he knows...
and we know he knows.

Would be nice, but I doubt impeachment will happen, not with the Dem majority in the Senate.

I don’t want Holder to resign. I want him to be arrested and led out in handcuffs, charged with accessory to murder, and rot in a federal prison like Blago.

Playing the Joe Mccarthy card on Issa was the height of arrogance and hypocrisy. The man should be prosecuted for complicity in the death of a federal officer and lying under oath. About 50 years without bail seem right.

Removal happens in the Senate. An impeachment would put up to 17 rats in the Senate - those who are not in safe seats- in a real bind next November if they don't vote to remove.

Invoking McCarthyism? With this statement, Eric Holder tacitly admits he is an anti-American communist.

I hope Holder stays right where he is - illustrating just how dictatorial and criminal this Administration has become.

Sadly, there will be other deaths and examples of his treachery and the media will give him a pass.

Arming Mexican drug gangs so they can kill our border agents, demanding the worst mass murderer on US soil in US history Khalid Sheik Mohammed be tried as a US citizen with full constitutional rights so he has a better chance at freedom, suing states for trying to enforce their immigration laws....No Mr. Holder, you shouldn’t resign. You should tried for treason and summarily executed.

Arrest
Try
Convict
Execute

For accessory to murder of a federal officer after the fact. Include all of BATFE in that as well.

Good job. Sorry I missed it.

It is a good thing that it is getting more attention.

It is a serious test of the new media. If we can force the Obama administration to be accountable for this mess, we will have shown that the restoration of the Constitution is likely.
