You note, "overly emotional, highly subjective, and really (in my opinion) not even very well-written." I would agree and I would point out that men watch football games and women watch soap operas.
As a supporter of Newt Gingrich, I would like to see them address a very flagrant vulnerability which is the women's reaction to his marital history. If you read the posts by women on these threads in reaction to Gingrich you will find a disproportionate number oppose him. In any event, I have seen some polls which show he is not getting an equivalent share of that vote.
This is purely speculative on my part, but I suspect we will see some real cattiness concerning Mrs. Gingrich.
Be that as it may, Gingrich has a real problem with the women's vote and he's got to address it somehow.
The accepted wisdom (perhaps not in this august forum) is that Clinton balanced the budget. If you go to the budget proposed by Clinton in February, 1995, you’ll find that it runs $180 to $200+ billion projected annual deficits for the next ten years, yet within a few years the budget was running a surplus (yeah, I know it was a surplus based on the diversion of FICA monies, but that’s the common perception).
The key fact here is that the Gingrich Congress was elected a few months before this budget was submitted, so it seems to me to be more fair to credit Gingrich with the surplus.
The problem, though, with Gingrich is that he is erratic. The knock on his tenure as Speaker of the House is that he would have a Number 1 Great Idea, Super-Priority today which Absolutely Must Be Worked On and a different one tomorrow. A leader needs to be more focused. Gingrich would be an disaster as president.
I like Gingrich, but his strength is that of an insurgent.
If it’s a choice between Gingrich and the incumbent, sure, I’ll vote for Gingrich but without enthusiasm.
Gingrich is the 2012 version of Giuliani. Time for the 12 steps, conservatives have reached the bottom.
Peggy Noonan lost my respect a loooooong time ago.....
I would add “terminal” disease to that statement.
When does Peggy’s attachment to the Reagan administration no longer hold any cachet? For the life of me I cannot figure out why her articles are even read anymore.
After her gushing about Obama on election night, I gave up on her.
You don’t really know modern women that well.
In the seventies there were about twenty soap operas on television. I know, because I was raised in a household where the soaps were on, every day, like clock work.
There are only six left today. And they’re dying.
Univision is the only thriving soap opera market these days.
American women have evolved. They don’t have time for soap operas. They work outside the home. They have other outlets for entertainment. And most of them don’t have consecutive hours every week to devote to a serial story line that they must follow every day to keep up with the plot.
I don’t know any American woman that watches soap operas anymore. And I myself haven’t watched them in about twenty years.
But men will still watch football. That will never end.
When Gingrich was first elected, I was a liberal Democrat.
I voted for my last Democrat in 1988. (While Perry was aiding Al Gore in Texas)
Intelligent people gain wisdom as they age. I doubt Newt has stood still either and I give much more weight to his words of today than those of decades ago.
She is a "conservative" like Obama who she supported.
>> Las Vegas odds, obummer 200 to 1, newt 5000 to 1.
OK, wise guy — who exactly would that be?
Peggy Noonan is pompous.
Cat got your tongue, newbie troll?
>> Gingrich is dangerous. He offers only that which is good for Newt.
THEN WHO?
Put up or STFU.
I did not....will follow all accusations about Newt in post #5 and stay in touch...Newt has been misquoted so many times, not one News article can be trusted...research the text of his words etc.
Newt is an admitted Conservative Moderate....I believe Romney is nearly as Faux Populist as Obama...the MSM talking heads say Obama is a Populist: : a member of a political party claiming to represent the common people; especially often capitalized : a member of a United States political party formed in 1891 primarily to represent agrarian interests and to advocate the free coinage of silver and government control of monopolies
Obama may claim to be "populist", I've never heard him refer to himself as one, only the MSM and talking heads....Obama is not for the people he is for Big Government which shuts out innovative people.
Newt is INSPIRING American voters that are looking for a brilliant leader with great ideas and Newt is disturbing to the establishment Rove clones, msm and the leftwingers.
HOW dare Gingrich PROVE Noonan, Krauthammer aka Sour Kraut and Karl Rove WRONG...they all said he would never get out of single digits. Newt is soaring...the talking heads make a living out of being RIGHT but guess what? they were all wrong. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT!!
SO much cheap spam and all faux, cheap hits. How easy to spin like a persian rug made in China.
