Hundreds gather downtown to rally against cuts to government programs

CLEVELAND - A couple hundred protesters, worried about looming cuts to social programs, loudly raised their voices in Cleveland today, shouting, "No cuts now, no cuts ever."

They are worried about cuts to some programs that have become staples for Americans: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

"This is a promise that our government has made to the American people, said protester Wynne Antonio. “They worked in good faith all their lives and paid in to these systems and they deserve to keep them in place."

On a clear but chilly day downtown, they gathered at 11:30am first in Public Square against a backdrop of holiday decorations. The protestors came from labor unions, church groups and health care organizations.

They say a lot of people depend on the programs that could face cuts.

Everyone will be going cold turkey. And if you think that withdrawal for the most hardened drug addicts is bad, just wait and see what will be with the welfare addicts. They have no skills to really write about, their work ethic is shot or non existent, and they suck off the bottle for their daily meager subsistence. What could possible go wrong????

I believe we are going to have to treat this just like a major epidemic. The quickest and sometimes most humane way is a quarantine of the infected and infected areas. And let it all burn out.

Quarantine for the most part would most likely work, there would be exceptions. The only problem is the people who are now in charge. They want this to spiral out of control as that gives them opportunity to seize power. They want a hard line dictatorship. They cannot stand the average person being free.

A few years ago I would have argued with you. Today? Yes, I agree with you. I’ve learned over the years that it’s not the rhetoric that counts it’s the actions.

One of the most blatant set of actions is how the Homeland Security department looks at Americans. Just watch their actions it’s American citizens who seem to be the enemy and Illegal Immigrants, Islamics of any stripe who are just misunderstood and need to have extra-ordinary care given to.

I could go on but I won’t.
