Debate Question Reponse - Missed Opportunity
Vanity | 12/11/11 | Me

Yes this is fantasy, but below is my response to the “tell me about a time you didn’t have the basic necessities” question:

“Well I must say that I find the choice of this particular question, among the thousands that I’m sure ABC received, to be troubling – it doesn’t appear to be motivated in any way to uncovering how the candidates on this stage would govern if elected. The appearance certainly exists that this question is an attempt by ABC to conjure up images of Republicans as rich fat cats, unsympathetic to the plight of the many people in this country who are now struggling. To the extent that this question is successful in conjuring up such an image, who does it benefit? That’s right – Barack Obama. I would ask the audience to ask themselves whether they believe this same question would be asked of a panel of democratic candidates.

Please also consider the following: Why have there been no questions in these debates regarding Operation Fast & Furious? Would it not be important to understand how a candidate for President would address a situation where his/her attorney general has come under fire for allegedly lying to Congress and conducting a gun walking scheme in Mexico? Also, given how the rising cost of energy is impacting household budgets, why have there been no questions regarding whether the Republican candidates on this stage agree with Barack Obama’s decision to not move forward with a new oil pipeline that would have provided thousands of new American jobs?”

The Republican candidates need to take every opportunity in these debates to put the grotesquely biased media on trial. Newt was right when he said we need to stand up to the lying about the Middle East, but we need to stand up to it everywhere else as well.

One last thing – why on earth would the Republican candidates tolerate moderators who are obviously liberals? It goes without saying that questions coming from liberal moderators will implicitly assume the “correctness” of their world view. And I daresay that there would be at least some questions from conservative moderators that specifically ask for comparisons to Obama, rather than attempting to get the Republican candidates to attack each other. Having biased liberal moderators is beyond ridiculous.

Set up questions were the rule of the night. Questions about infidelity and wealth envy coming out of the mouths of a former Clinton administration flunky and the wife of a limousine liberal Hollywood titan.

And yet, except for Gingrich and Santorium, they all turned up their collective noses at a Trump debate which would never include gotcha questions.

It's pathetically sad that so many Republicans dance to the tune of their MSM hating masters.

George Stephanopoulos, a top Clinton campaign aide, then Clinton administration official is OK, but Donald Trump is out of bounds. Really.

I suggested months ago the Republican candidates should get together and to reject Democrat partisans as "objective" moderators. Did they do that? Nope. Dummies.

It's a ridiculous system. If we had a sensible RNC, it could organize monthly debates starting several months before Iowa and leading right up to the Convention. Local tea parties and state GOP organizations could host each and choose moderators who would pose questions from a right-wing viewpoint.

If the major networks refused to carry them, there are plenty of smaller ones as well as C-Span who would. The problem, of course, is the RNC -- it set up the current mess.

I would assume that since ABC sponsored the debate, they’d get to pick the moderators.

No fan of the RNC but I can’t see how they have any control over this. The networks obviously want to pimp their “stars”.

I wish one of them would have replied, “Nobody who is struggling to pay their rent, or their doctor bill is up here running for President. Obama spent nearly a billion dollars for the job in the last election. He didn’t have a real job his entire life, yet went to the best schools the nation has to offer, and for free. Have any of you bothered to ask him this question at one of his Kobe beef parties?”

This has been going on from the inception of televised presidential debates with Kennedy vs. Nixon in 1960, whether it's Republican vs. Republican, Democrat vs. Democrat, or Republican vs. Democrat. It's simply because libs control the airwaves on which the debates are seen (with the possible partial exception of FOX).

Conservative candidates know they have to deal with the prejudices of the moderators and can effectively counter them with preparation by deftly steering their remarks away from the moderator's biased questions. It really isn't all that big a problem for candidates who do their homework, most notably Ronald Reagan vs. Jimmy Carter in 1980.

Republicans should have their own debates, stream them on you tube or something, we don’t need to rely on TV anymore.
