Obama establishes an Office of Manufacturing Policy (Welcome to USSR)

At a time when economists say U.S. manufacturing policy is in "disarray," the Obama administration on Monday said it has created a new Office of Manufacturing Policy to be co-chaired by the Commerce Department Secretary and the director of the White House National Economic Council.

"At this make or break time for the middle class and our economy, we need a strong manufacturing sector that will put Americans back to work making products stamped with three proud words: Made in America," President Barack Obama said in a statement.

Wisconsin leads the nation with the highest share of its workforce employed in manufacturing.

The new office expands on a previous appointment for a government adviser on manufacturing, known as a "manufacturing czar." Washington has had no fewer than three such "manufacturing czars" installed as White House advisers in the course of two administrations. Ron Bloom, Obama's policy adviser on manufacturing, resigned in August.

One of the two co-chairs will be Commerce Secretary John Bryson, giving the position cabinet-level influence for the first time. His co-chair will be National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling.

"The White House Office of Manufacturing Policy will convene cabinet-level meetings to aggressively implement the Administration's priority manufacturing initiatives," according to the statement.

Last week, the Washington, D.C.-based Council on Competitiveness became the latest business group to issue a report on the need for a manufacturing policy, saying policy is in "disarray."

Even though manufacturing accounts for more than half of all U.S. exports, critics at the National Association of Manufacturing routinely complain that Washington devotes more time and resources to the nation's farm lobby, even though U.S. agricultural exports are only one-tenth the size of manufactured exports, the association says.

"government control of these were extensive enough to leave “only the shell of private ownership”.

Obama denies being a Socialist (he allows private ownership) and denies being a Communist (he defends the middle class), and of course he's correct; he is neither. But I don't see how he could possibly convince anyone that his economics are not fascist.

“The common good before self-interest.[178]”

Prepare for the coming PhonyCare. See my tagline:

As I’ve said before, they’re planning to fine the living daylights out of everyone else. And those that have “insurance” may think they are not paying a fine, but really are already paying fines, through higher premiums.

“if you fail at something, the only solution is more gov’t interference and taxpayer $.”

This is, in essence, the Marxist Hegelian Dialectic. Government creating a problem requiring a government solution, always moving incrementally toward Marxism.

Ok...I believe that the GOP have some rot, but we need to get rid of RINOs from the grassroots level. If we let 0 win, we mighthave to worry weither x is a conservative, because with 0, he mightput some new people on the SCOTUS, declare a state of emergency and make us into a communist nation. This election needs us to get TeaParty into congress and stop the libs - and RINOs.

Reminds me of the story of the Soviet nail factory. They had been following their quota in the plan, which required a certain weight of nails to be produced every day. They met this by producing only the largest nails they could, thus meeting the weight requirement in the fastest way possible. When enough complaints reached the planning bureau, they changed the requirement, so instead of weight it was number. At that point the factory switched to producing the smallest nails they could, thus meeting the new requirement in the fastest way possible. Throughout all of this, there was a continued shortage of nails in the sizes usually used in actual construction because the factory never produced them.

If you go to a planned economy, you have to plan it to the smallest details, or the humans involved will fulfill the requirements in the most efficient manner.

"...best to be sure when I quote someone that he DID say it."

Wise indeed, which is why we don't use open-sourced data bases like Wikipedea or opinion blogs like Freerepublic as valid source-data.
But I probably should make better use of our "/sarc" tags to avoid confusion.

Oh that is a given. We are all fighting for our candidate.

Whoever wins will need everyone’s support.

I doubt we will unite around a candidate. In 2008 I said the same thing...McCain was not the best, but it will be better then O. As it turned out, I didn't know how bad O would be!!

The builder says if contractors added just 5% American-made materials, two hundred thousands jobs would be created to meet demand.

And how much more would the house cost? We need to get our manufacturing base back...from Autos to furniture to textiles to bicycles!!

Your post is timely. I jut heard McLame, tearing Obama a new one.

He had to know how bad zero was when he ran against him. Yet he wimped out.

He even said the pull out of troops was nothing but politics.
Zero didn’t even give Bush ANY credit for ordering the surge that broke the enemy in Iraq.

Zero is America’s worst and most dangerous President EVER.

“And the MSM derides those who call him a socialist, lol, what else would you call him?”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I would call him a Fascist! To the best of my understanding he seems to fit the definition offered by Benito Mussolini and he knows how to pose like Mussolini...I doubt that he will ever make a train run on time though, probably make it run off the tracks.

There are of course a lot of other names I could call him but I don’t want to be banned.

Okay, I actually have no way to judge whether that sentence is sarcasm, satire or an actual verbatim quote from Obamalamadingdong. It is simply impossible to separate the truth from fiction in this upside down universe.

Dead on the money! Even in a non-government manufacturing operation I have wanted to pull out my hair as useless “managers” tried to make decisions based on daily reports that actually conveyed very little information but seemed to report every detail. You could not explain to them that what they regarded as a constant unit of measure on the reports could in fact vary by orders of magnitude in reality. In one case where a warehouse crew was asked to produce twenty “movements” in one shift a movement could involve anywhere from ten minutes work to eight or more hours of work. When you try to judge performance solely on paper reports without having any understanding of what the numbers really mean the sorriest people will find a way to look great on paper while those who are really trying to get the job done will look bad on paper.

Over thirty years ago the district manager of the company for which I worked as a tech rep actually put out a memo threatening to fire people based on a figure on a computer generated report which actually meant nothing, in fact it meant LESS than nothing if that is possible. When I raised hell about it he sent out another memo to all hands telling us to not take everything so seriously! First he threatens to fire people based on a useless figure and then he tells us not to take his threats seriously!

When government dingbats are in charge of everything this sort of insanity will increase a thousandfold causing everything to grind to a halt.
