New Haven Asks State to Allow Non-Citizens to Vote
NBC Connecticut ^ | 12/14/2011

Posted on 12/14/2011 5:52:21 AM PST by Puppage

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano plans to ask the state Legislature to allow illegal immigrants who live in the city to be able vote in municipal elections.

DeStefano said on Tuesday that the proposal would build a more engaged community and follows the lead of other cities, the New Haven Register reports.

The Register reports that 10,000 to 12,000 undocumented residents are believed to live in New Haven.

Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally or illegally and cannot vote now would still be unable to vote in state or federal elections.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

New Haven made national headlines in 2007 when the city approved a program that provides municipal identification cards for all residents -- including illegal immigrants -- to provide access to services such as banking and the library.

So it starts.

This is important to keep in mind when listening to Newt’s “lets legalize all illegals who have been law-abiding citizens” BS. This is happening all over the country, bit by bit, and supported by DOJ and Obama admin.

Amnesty is the most defining issue of our lifetime. If we surrender, it is over. Permanently.

Everything else can be changed later.

Imagine - a democrat asking that voting rights be granted to noncitizens! Regardless, it will never fly ...

Their proposal doesn’t go far enough. Why should people have to live there to get a vote?

“it will never fly ...” I wouldn’t be so sure. Power (winning elections) is more important to those that have been elected.

Hey, DeStefano, what don't you understand about "illegal"?
Are you Dems that scared of the next election? Sure sounds like it to me.

Permission unnecessary because it is illegal (un-PC) to demand proof of eligibility to vote.

Isn’t not paying taxes (of any sort) illegal?

If so, we taxpayers should immediately stop sending money into the government (at all levels), thereby earning the coveted status of “illegal” and the attendant protection of RAT politicians.

Hey, DeStefano, what don't you understand about "illegal"?

They'd only be classified "illegal" if their voting habits tended Republican.

Well why stop there, why not send absentee ballots to Iran and let them have a say in our government too. I'm sure ImAnutJob would participate.

Think about it ... what's the difference?
