When all else fails, consult the manual. Our Manual for a society of free individuals is the Constitution of the United States and the principles of the Declaration of Independence upon which is founded.

Restore the foundations, expose the termites who have been eroding those foundations, and enlighten new generations of citizens of their inheritance of liberty and the need to understand its ideas and to reject tyranny when it rears its head, disguised as "we're here to help you."

The Tea Party movement needs to rid the ruling class from the GOP.

A few well-placed nukes would have been cheaper and more effective.

"War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses."

-- Major General Smedley Darlington Butler

Another brilliant essay from Claremont.

Mutual trust between the people and their government, has to be statecraft's paramount priority.

Building trust should be the goal of every politician. Decreasing trust has been the effect of every politician since 2001. True. Very sad. For example, the way Sarah Palin is treated by the media is criminal and very hurtful for our country.

Why don’t we come to the point. IT”S ISLAM!! Islam is the reason for what this author is talking about. Until this Bronze Age barbarism is seen for the evil it is, the rot and ruin it creates in every people and nation it comes in contact with and the bloodshed it causes, until it’s wiped from the Earth as Nazism was, nothing will change. This is like a drunk in a family. It isn’t the family that’s the problem— it’s the drunk.

Thanks for posting, bfl.

Claremonts’ publications are in my experience quite scholarly, well thought out and well written. Kind of like Imprimis from Hillsdale. ‘Cept this last issue of Imprimis had Phil Gramm on the cover with the featured article. I wrote them quite the incredulous letter that they would put Gramm, one the single most culpable legislators when it comes to the ongoing destruction of our financial system. (eg; Gramm-Leach-Bliley)

Post hoc ergo propter hoc?

Actually, I think the true cause of most of what the author bemoans of our fate is the election of 2008.

So, what should we do now?

This "Permanent Ruling Class" and its preclusive, exclusive hold on power and the avenues to power, as shown by the current season of political exclusion (mind you, the People have not yet had a single vote on any candidate), must come to an end. America is pre-revolutionary, just as it was in 1774. Time to fix the problem by fixing the "problemators", the brigades of anti-Jacksonian, anti-populist Dick Cheneys and Barney Franks and Bill Clintons and Bill Clinton-wannabees.

Call the People into convention, suspend the Constitution, close all the border crossings and airports, and summon Madame Guillotine. That's what Thomas Jefferson would do.

agrre that this is the only solution, to the problems at home...

sadly, we are now going to endure a new wave of voters who have literally grown up during this oppressive decade, who havent been instructed, nor have a clue that we indeed posess that owners manual...

without a responsible adult citizen[s] boldly returning us to the aforementioned solutions, we are simply going to contain the neighborhood while the building burns to the ground...

commies and izzlamis won, at least this round...now its up to them to finish us off, *if* they think they can...

Do you actually believe what you posted?

Of course. I believe that most of the rapid decline of our country's power, influence, wealth, can be attributed to 2008. History is a continuum of course and the causes also were laid prior; but it is what was done to "fix" the problems that caused our current weak position while burying us under a staggering load in the future that has to be first removed in order to recover.

Add to this domestic and economic loss, Obama's foreign policy nightmares and...

Every war has costs, there's no way around that, but I don't think is quite the simple, single cause of all that's wrong today that the author does.

thanks for your reply.
