Iran official: We tricked the U.S. surveillance drone to land intact
Haaretz ^

Posted on 12/15/2011 10:32:48 AM PST by alex2011

"The GPS navigation is the weakest point," the Iranian military official told the Monitor, calling the downing an "electronic ambush" of secret drone.

"By putting noise [jamming] on the communications, you force the bird into autopilot. This is where the bird loses its brain," he added.

The engineer added that the Iranians were able to make the drone land "on its own where we wanted it to, without having to crack the remote-control signals and communications” from the US control center."

“Maybe it’s not a UAV pilot, but a tech or someone loading viruses in order to give access to Chicoms, and the Chicoms think it’s hilarious to drop one in Iran where they can discreetly buy it from the Iranians without direct confrontation.”

This is at least as plausible as any other explanation. I don’t for a second think Iran cooked this up - this is most likely china, or if not, then russia.

As plausable as anything else I’ve read, but we will never know what happened with certainity. But I would be very surprised it the navigation code did not contain something similar to what I out lined. Very surprised, tricked into thinking it was somewhere it wasn’t and not able to get back home is less believable then your take. If true, the entire software navigation team should be fired ASAP.

For all I know they could be giggling at the folks who said we weren’t going to need manned aircraft any longer.

Since I'm doing a good job, I'll keep up as the Devil's Advocate here.

"Those folks" would reply to you that this is a perfect example of why we shouldn't use manned aircraft for missions like this.

Obama's just begging for a piece of junk, not a crew of 24 airmen and intelligence specialists like Bush did.

And then of course there's this guy....

Overlooked in article the prepayback:

“That interview has since been pulled from Fars’ Persian-language website. And last month, the relatively young Gholizadeh died of a heart attack, which some Iranian news sites called suspicious – suggesting the electronic warfare expert may have been a casualty in the covert war against Iran.”

Thus Iranians would have to perfectly spoof ground beacons and GPS to get it — very unlikely.

I don't think we have ground beacons on enemy territory.

Okay, talking about the compromise of a crew in the U.S., it would seem you were delving into the realm of software corruption. Are there grounds to say the P3-Orion was brought down by a software glitch?

I don’t think the crew in the U.S. was in fear of their personal safety, so I’m not sure where you could go on those grounds either.

I honestly don’t see a connection, but I have been known to be dense before at times.

I read that. Where does it say, "Someone had a virus in the main controller of all of these birds"?

Specifically.

Well, if we’re just talking surveillance, I would agree. That’s not all that we’re talking about though.

If Iran wants nukes, let’s give them a couple hundred.

Why are you addressing that to me?

Virus keeps showing up on the inside of the network.

Which "network" would that be?

I’m still wondering what “Air Gabbed” means. Can you help me out?

That scenario sounds the most plausible have heard to date.

Hell, there is likely some mooselimb Tech or Game Pilot who was PC put there intentionally.

20 years ago, I would have 100% suspected that we gave them the thing as some Trojan Horse, but with the indo-kenyan he probably gave them a clean one. Damn libs have some suicidal “level the paying field” mindset in giving the adversary Top Secret Mil stuff, to curtail USA Imperialism.

You people BELIEVE this? Geez.

Ya think the President of the United States is requesting the Iranians hand over their own fake drone?

Based on the circumstances and information so far, I absolutely believe it.

Hilarious. Thanks for the laugh.

I have no idea what your talking about.

But I'm glad you're easily amused.

Not even a little bit curious as to what the landing gear or underside of this fake drone looks like.

Read your tag again.

Not even a little bit curious as to what the landing gear or underside of this fake drone looks like.

That's it?

Lets examine this shall we?

The U.S. is missing a high tech drone.

We're initially told it crash, it was shot down...It didn't happen, etc.

Then suddenly the Iranians are posing for close up video around a drone, nearly completely intact.

The Iranians then tell us they compromised the communication/GPS and landed the drone in their own backyard.

The President of the United States then requests they give us our spy machine back.

Do you believe the POTUS is in on this fraud? That this is some concocted scheme?

I would guess, those taking control of the drone, would have difficulty landing this aircraft, never having done so previously, and the gear was possibly compromised on landing?

So you think this is all fake?

Please elaborate.

Thanks

If it’s real, why are they hiding the landing gear and the complete underside?

Why would we tell the world we’re missing a high tech drone?

Why would we say it crashed and supposedly take pictures of the crash, and then say it wasn’t, etc...lol

The drone is a fake and you are completely ignorant on this subject.

Again, why hide the landing gear?

You’re gullible and not worthy of your own tag...lol
