The death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who was captured and killed by rebels in October, may have been a war crime, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court said on Thursday.

"I think the way in which Mr. Gaddafi was killed creates suspicions of ... war crimes," ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo told reporters.

"I think that's a very important issue," he said. "We are raising this concern to the national authorities and they are preparing a plan to have a comprehensive strategy to investigate all these crimes." …

So is the ICC going to serve a warrant on itself?

I'm afraid I'm for Obama on this.

If he is arrested, US forces should be sent to rescue him, European LEO lives be damned! And collateral, too, while I'm at it!

“We are raising this concern to the national authorities and they are preparing a plan to have a comprehensive strategy to investigate all these crimes.”

I am sure that the new authorities have just kicked that up to their #1 concern. So many atrocities committed since 1945 and the death of one despot at the hands of rebel factions in the superpower of Libya has brought out the bureaucratic longknives of the worlds judicial power.

Well everyone has to die, that is an absolutism but if other reports of Gaddafi being sodomized by some anonymous booty bandit before his death are true, now that is what I would call a war crime.

Senor Moreno-Ocampo should go get a real job.

Do something useful, ICC. Charge our Sociopath of State with war crimes. Then dissolve yourselves, you worthless UNaccountable bureaucrats.

I think the point is simply to keep the bureaucratic process churning. Imagine the ICC would run out of cases...why, it could just be dissolved.

Has anyone actually been indicted, let alone prosecuted by said court? I don’t see them going after a single Islamist butcher, like Bin Laden, Zarqawi, ad. nauseum. or is that spot just reserved for American presidents and other who manage to take out a dictator/butcher or two?

ICC and the UN can both rot.

I grudgingly agree. However, I'd demand a minimum of three years of careful planning before attempting the jailbreak.

Did you hear about what he and his sons did to his famed female bodyguards? Forced circumcisions and frequent rape after which they were passed around to other high ranking officials. Sounds like some of them were forced to join the "guard" in the first place as well. If he was cornholed then he got what was coming to him. He should have made the smart play and fled the country while he still could.

Mind you I wasn't happy with this "regime change", I fear the coming theocracy. But we should all be glad that this SOB is dead.

Good thing the ICC wasn't around when they hung Mussolini.

“The death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who was captured and killed by rebels in October, may have been a war crime...”

I do believe there’s a self-serving interest among elites when they try to call the death of Gaddafi a “war crime.”

The elites damn well know that the people throughout the world are in favor of dragging dictators and thieving government bureaucrats into the street and hanging them from the nearest lamppost. The elites are hoping to postpone their just reward at the hands of the people they’ve enslaved and murdered.

A trial at a UN run ICC court will assure that they won’t be hanged. They’ll also get to keep their illicit fortunes and receive a 2 year prison sentence at a posh resort, before being released to infest the world again.

Think not?

Kiang Guek Eav, the butcher who ran the evil Khmer Rouge S-21 prison, got 35 years for his part in murdering 17,000 Cambodians. Only 12 people survived his hand. It’s expected he’ll be released soon because he’s in poor health.

“Good thing the ICC wasn't around when they hung Mussolini.”

Last year when I went to Villa Carlotta, I was looking for a sign or indication of where they gunned down Benny and his bimbo, but no dice.

As bad as Gaddafi was, what replaces him will be worse.

There it is. It doesn’t say exactly where it is though. I would figure it to be a minor tourist attraction at least.
