Merry Christmas, From Satan Claus
IBD Editorials ^ | December 16, 2011 | MARK STEYN

Posted on 12/16/2011 7:03:19 PM PST by Kaslin

Christmas in America is a season of time-honored traditions:

The sacred performance of the annual ACLU lawsuit over the presence of an insufficiently secular "holiday" tree.

The ritual provocations of the atheist displays licensed by pitifully appeasing municipalities to sit between the menorah and the giant Frosty the Snowman.

The familiar strains of every hack columnist's "war on Christmas" column rolling off the keyboard as easily as Richard Clayderman playing "Winter Wonderland" ...

This year has been a choice year. A crucified skeleton Santa Claus was erected as part of the "holiday" display outside the Loudoun County courthouse in Virginia — because, let's face it, nothing cheers the hearts of moppets in the Old Dominion like telling them, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus — and he's hanging lifeless in the town square."

Alas, a week ago, some local burghers failed to get into the ecumenical spirit and decapitated him. Who are these killjoys? Christians intolerant of the First Amendment (as some have suggested)? Or perhaps a passing Saudi?

Our friends in Riyadh only the other day beheaded for Amina bin Salem (so to speak) Nasser for "sorcery," and it would surely be grossly discriminatory not to have some Wahhabist holiday traditions on display in Loudoun County. (The Islamic Saudi Academy, after all, is one of the most prestigious educational institutions of neighboring Fairfax County.)

Across the fruitcaked plain in California, the city of Santa Monica allocated permits for "holiday" displays at Palisades Park by means of lottery. Eighteen of the 21 slots went to atheists — for example, the slogan "37 million Americans know a myth when they see one" over portraits of Jesus, Santa, and Satan.

I believe a person I know took the skeleton Santa down, at least the first time. This friend was exercised that children might be frightened by the specter. It was not a wise thing to do, unfortuntely, but the friend’s heart was in the right place.

As might be supposed, the person who put the skeleton up originally and re-erected it later is one of those chronically discontented, giggling, snarky atheists with a seven-year-old level of intellectual and emotional maturity. He seems to think there’s something brave and naughty about what he did.

What my friend did was not particularly smart, however. Now the moron atheist has fresh ammunition for his cause, because the friend has made Christians look intolerant. Now the atheist has legal protection for his stupidity and there are to be additional police patrols to protect this thing. Of all the idiocy—!

Leesburg is a beautiful and historic eighteenth-century town filled with enchanting period houses and shops. Tourism is its biggest income producer. Obviously tourists don’t want to see things like this, so it costs the town money if they come to see a lovely Williamsburg style Christmas village and have to see atheists’ ugly and juvenile issues.

Well a little over 210 Milion American Christians know the truth of Jesus. Someday the folks that came up with that slogan will also!

Want to impress me with brave and naughty? Replace the skeleton with a black mannequin. We will be able to count the seconds on one hand that such a display would be allowed by the city to stay up.

Some demographics are perfectly fine to offend and intimidate.

No, your friend wasn’t smart. Smart would have been catching him alone and kicking the crap out of him.

It’s not brave to offend Christians of any color with a crucified Santa skeleton. Christians don’t fight back. “Brave” would be putting a dead Mohammed on display. That would take real guts. Far, far more personal courage than this sniveling and cowardly little man has. It would take courage like a girl. Like Ayan Hirsi Ali. There’s courage for you.

Did the last earthquake they had in Virginia release some mind altering gas?! That’s the ONLY explanation I can think of for the way some people in Virginia are acting.

A skeleton Santa Claus? Really people...
