House GOP revolts on payroll deal
Politico ^ | 12-17-11 | John Allen and Jake Sherman

House Republicans are in full revolt in the wake of Senate passage of a two-month payroll tax holiday package, casting serious doubt on the fate of a bill that already has President Barack Obama’s approval.

Republican leaders were warned that they could expect a rebellion if lawmakers are forced to vote on the Senate version of the bill, according to a source on the line. After the call, it’s not clear whether Republican leaders will try to pass the bill with a combination of Republican and Democratic votes or try another version and bring the Senate back to town. Leadership is expected to reconvene this weekend to talk about how to proceed.

Hussein has apparently backed down from the millionaires tax. Hussein has apparently backed down from the Keystone pipeline being IN the bill, and while it ain’t perfect, some folks still ARE SO ANXIOUS to see “disaster” in every movement of the body politic.

These were der Führer's remarks following passage in the Senate yesterday:

While this agreement is for two months, it is my expectation -- in fact it would be inexcusable for Congress not to further extend this middle-class tax cut for the rest of the year. It should be a formality. And hopefully it’s done with as little drama as possible when they get back in January.

This really isn’t hard. There are plenty of ways to pay for these proposals. This is a way to boost the economy that has been supported by these very same Democrats and Republicans in the past. It is something that economists believe will assure that the economy and the recovery is on a more stable footing than it otherwise would be. And my preference, and the preference of most Americans, is that we ask the wealthiest few Americans to pay their fair share..."

If you think he has abandoned class warfare and isn't hell bent on getting the GOP to enact a tax increase so that he can use it as a cudgel the way it was used on Poppa Bush, you are naive at best. All this "deal" does is move the fight into next year, closer to election day.

I sympathize with the dog.

Listening to phony Mitt claiming to be a conservative makes me angry enough to s___.

“Almost all major corruption is either bipartisan or common enough that one side can effectively blackmail the other.”

Love that quote.

I never said I thought he had abandoned class warfare. I was speaking about a specific situation in a specific piece of legislation.

Be able to note the distinction between a general principle and a specific exception to that principle is important.

isn’t this A SPENDING BILL?"

Good point! It's $$ that "rightfully belongs to the government" being "given away" to lowly taxpayers.

If bonehead passes this his time is up. And along with ever Republican in the House. The ride is over. Time for total rebellion.

I'm just curious and I am not crazy about what passed in the Senate, but if they pass this temporary bill this week who should we vote for in the next election, Democrats? Regardless of what happens in the House until we get control of the Senate we are limited in what can be accomplished in Washington. Tell me where I am wrong.

They are operating on the idea that they just have to roll the ball forward till Nov 2012. They deserve to lose their seats. There is absolutely no good reason to give the Democrats anything. All this is doing is muddying the waters. Just when the American people were beginning to trust Republicans again they at every turn try to return to pre-2010 parity. This is what we fight. Its not just Obama, its a political class that just does not get it.

The ban is for manufacturing and importing, not the sales of existing supplies.

The US manufacturing has ended. I do not know if it will now re-tool and resume.
