Prince Harry became embroiled in a real-life crime drama when he came to the rescue of one of his best friends after he was mugged on a London street.
According to police records, the Prince was on the phone to Thomas van Straubenzee at the exact moment a robber took his friends BlackBerry mobile.
Harry heard the scuffle taking place and immediately drove to the scene with his protection officer. Fearing 28-year-old Mr van Straubenzee had been hurt, the Prince circled the streets of Battersea, South-West London, looking for him.
When he could not find his friend, he drove to the nearest police station where he found Mr van Straubenzee reporting the crime. Because he had overheard the mugging taking place, Prince Harry was required to give a police statement, which is now part of an ongoing investigation.
Last night, Wandsworth police told The Mail on Sunday that they had arrested a man in connection with the robbery and recovered the stolen mobile phone. The man was released on bail.
It is believed to be the first time a senior Royal has walked into a police station to report a crime. Royal witness: The police station where Harry went to report the crime

A police source said: Prince Harry came into the station to give a statement. It was a separate statement from the one given by his friend who was mugged.

It appears that both of those boy princes have grown into fine young men. They seem to carry themselves with honor.
Harry is still a bit wild, but they are both willing to be in the trenches in their military service.
How does that translate into "riding to the rescue"?
They didn't ask to be born of such heritage and it's not like they can just walk away from it either........it is what it is and I commend them for dealing with their lives under the microscope as well as they are doing.
He may have gone to report a missing body, or otherwise.
I guess that beats the alternative, which would be like finding van Straubenzee lying dead in a gutter.
I bet their mom would be proud.
Seems to me his intent was to rescue a friend who was in danger, so yeah, he did ride to the rescue. It’s just that his friend turned out to be ok and at the police station.
Of course, it helps to have an armed ex-SAS “protection officer” assigned to you.
“Wealthy Battersea has become a crime hotspot for muggings, murders and drug-dealing.”
This is paradoxical. Typically when wealthy people find themselves in such a situation, if they don’t want to get their hands dirty, they hire a squad of “hard boys” to police up the neighborhood. Once they are on patrol, the typical scum criminals leave skid marks getting out of there.
From that point on, life is easy on the hard boys, and they change modes to be the “goodwill ambassadors” to the neighborhood, wearing nice clothes and being very gentlemanly to locals. But woe be to any criminal that comes back.
I believe your right. It seems she was always proud, but I bet she would be thrilled to see them now. I’d suspect she would enjoy Kate too.
And why would they do that? If he's mugging people, keep him in lock-up so he can't harm anyone else.
I bet their fathers are proud too
