Boehner wants new bill cutting payroll tax
Atlanta Journal and Constitution ^ | 12-18-11 | Alan Fram

WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner says he opposes a Senate-approved bill extending a payroll tax cut and jobless benefits for just two months and wants congressional bargainers to write a new measure that would last an entire year.

The Ohio Republican said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that the Senate's two-month bill would be "kicking the can down the road." He mentioned items in the House version of the bill that were not in the Senate legislation, including restrictions on Obama administration curbs on industrial pollution.

Boehner's comments came a day after the Senate easily approved a compromise payroll tax cut bill. But in a conference call among House Republicans later Saturday, many complained bitterly about the $33 billion Senate bill, saying it lacked serious spending cuts.

This is not going to help the narrative that "Boehner caved".

Boehner is useless. He needs to quit golfing with Obama and retire. Fortunately he comes up for election every two years. When the leadership of the House falls into the hands of Conservatives, America will begin to recover.

Instead of “payroll tax” being cut [which worsens the SS funding situation] how about an “income tax” cut?

The reasons stated by ozero for the payroll tax cut apply to an income tax cut too.

Unless ozero is intentionally trying to bankrupt us, that is.

So he was against the Senate bill after he was for it?

So, basically Boehner is trying to one-up Democrats in a race to see who can surrender the most handouts?

Maybe.
I’m afraid Boehner will let the media whale away at the “mean-spirited Tea Party radicals” for insisting on their version of payroll tax relief and then pass the Senate bill with Dem /RINO votes after the “Tea Party” has suffered plenty of bad, slanted publicity.

If so he’s scum.

But, to be fair, if he doesn’t behave that way he deserves credit.

RAVE BOEHNER!

The 2 month bill was designed so that Dems could hammer ‘evil Republicans want to rise middle case taxes’ for the next two months.

The two month bill was awful. Rewrite it, send it back to the Senate and let the Dems NOT vote for it!

The first question I ask anyone running for congress is: Will you vote for Boehner for Speaker? If the answer is Yes, they won’t get my vote in a primary.

Taxes, shmaxes..

When I look at my check stub, and I see what is taken out:
16% Income tax;
4% Social Security tax; and
1.5% Medicare tax.

Everyone pretends like these are separate funds.
The FedGuv treats it all the same,
and it is certainly all the same (20%) to me.

Hey, maybe they’ll lower my Income tax 2%
and raise my Social Security Tax 2%.
Somehow, I should feel better about that, right?

Boehner took the club out of Obama’s hands and is now beating him over the head with it, and yet you complain.
There is no opportunity for your imaginary conservative dictator, to implement your heart’s desire.
Time to recognize success when it shows up, and quit whining.

So true. This crazy scheme never should have gotten started. I have lived through many recessions in my life and never once did they stop witholding the SS and Medicare tax. Its nuts. You notice there is no Federal tax holiday. They are still taking the full Fed tax out of everyone’s checks.

Yep - small concessions to keep the mudfight over a shutdown out of the picture and is taking it straight to the Dims. He has had some weak moments, but appears to be on the right track for now.

I so hope you are right, but Boehner has so often managed to modify to mollify and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We really don’t need to negotiate with ourselves.

We need to provide the best bill we can and get behind it hard. We own one house of congress and the purse strings. It’s time that the left understands that.

Just like our Presidential Candidate selection. Now is the time for ideas not personalities. We need to draw some lines in the sand and say, “Here’s the minimum, are you up to it? Do you have something better?”. We can wrangle over the pretty faces that are left.

“how about an “income tax” cut?”

An income tax cut doesn't help most of Obama’s base because they already don't pay income taxes.
