A Partisan Lightning Rod Is Undeterred

The intensifying heat on Mr. Holder comes as the Justice Department is stepping into some of the most politically divisive social issues of the day, including accusing an Arizona sheriff known for his crackdowns on illegal immigrants of racial profiling, scrutinizing new restrictions on voting in search of signs that they could lower turnout among minorities and telling judges that a law banning federal recognition of same-sex marriages is unconstitutional.

As Mr. Holder’s third year as attorney general draws to a close, no member of President Obama’s cabinet has drawn more partisan criticism. In an interview last week, Mr. Holder said he had no intention of resigning before the administration’s term was up, although he said he had made no decision about whether he would continue after 2012 should the president win re-election.

“I think that what I’m doing is right,” Mr. Holder said. “And election-year politics, which intensifies everything, is not going to drive me off that course.”

In this case you are asking who is worse - the teacher or the student.

Remember that Holder was a senior remember of the Reno Justice Department.

To paraphrase a line from a Star Wars movie - There are always two Seth Lords - the teacher and the apprentice.
Never fewer nor never more.

Strange how reality statements appear, mainly unintended, in Hollywood movies.

Incredible how the article plays F&F as a “gun-trafficking operation gone awry” in the first paragraph. Later the Times concedes a “sometime” failure to “quickly” track low-level buyers; finally, that they simply “lost track” with “no documents or testimony [to] have shown otherwise”.

If I were Eric Holder, at this point, I’d have had my staff write the same article.

To answer the poster’s question, Holder is worse than Reno.

Based on body count, Holder has the lead.

Lanny Breuer admitted to knowing about gun walking, and Breuer did nothing to stop it. I’m not a lawyer, but why can’t Arizona bring Breuer up on charges of negligent homicide or some sort of accessory? If not criminal charges, what about civil? Breuer needs to be made to talk.

Neither am I, but my guess is that's one protracted "sovereign immunity" battle that I think is worth fighting. Tenth Amendment and all that. Interestingly, the power to claim said status is not specifically enumerated in the Constitution...

I can dream, can't I?

If not criminal charges, what about civil?

Such a case can only be brought by someone with standing, (certainly Agent Terry's family has it), but I'd bet that the same said legal battle over sovereign immunity would immediately ensue. (Brewer v. Bruer anyone??? :-)

Breuer needs to be made to talk.

Yup. Whoever has the wherewithal should have put up the dough to get started a long time ago. I'm almost to the point of a citizens' committee with a bullwhip.
