Gingrich wins endorsements from American Family Association, Iowa speaker

Newt Gingrich rolled out a pair of high profile endorsements Tuesday, hoping to regain momentum in Iowa as recent polls have shown the one-time frontrunner slipping back into the middle of the Republican pack.

Don Wildmon, the founder and chairman of the American Family Association, announced his support for Gingrich Tuesday. The group, which promotes conservative Christian values and has a nationwide radio network of more than 180 stations, is a coup for Gingrich who has struggled to convince conservative voters to overlook a past that includes multiple divorces and admitted marital infidelity.

"Newt Gingrich recognizes the threat to our country posed by judges and lawyers imposing values upon the country inconsistent with our religious heritage, and has proposed constitutional steps to bring the courts back in balance under the constitution,” Wildmon said in a statement.

“We need someone in the White House who can balance the budget and get the economy moving again. Newt has done it before and I believe he can do it again. I am proud to endorse Newt Gingrich for president.”

How much does this matter?

Not at all to me, because I can vote for Newt regardless of what American Family does. Newt’s not perfect, but I’m dead certain no one else is either.

I don’t know how much this will matter in the actual vote count, but it is refreshing to finally see an organization dedicated to social issues recognize the one single fact that most of them are too dense to understand:

And that is, it is far more important how someone will govern in relationship to letting us all walk out our faith and our values — than it is how well that candidate has or has not walked out their faith and values.

And it is. I trust God to handle the particular candidate’s issues without my help.

It matters almost as much as if James Dobson had endorsed Newt. Don Wildmon is a good man who loves God and country and has a huge following nation-wide.

It’s going to do more to put the nails in the coffin of these “family values” religious groups who sell out their values for greed and power. I say good riddance to those who hijacked the faith for their own political power and financial greed. They have done great harm to the Church in America.

The more NotRomney vote that gets secured the better. If the 70-80% NotRomney vote solidified, not even the “establishment” and the MSM could get Romney the nomination. I know I may be preaching to the choir, but anyone[establishment], who thinks the MSM is not going to absolutely destroy Mitt Romney the second he secures the nomination, is a complete and total fool. The idea that Newt is going to get treated worse than Mitt is flawed thinking.

It's a shame he didn't get it. I would have made more sense for them to endorse Santorum--he is THE family values candidate. I think they are just being bandwagon jumpers here.

Yes it is...and for that peoples wallets will fall open who might have hesitated before. Go Newt!

And Lord you go before and after him please! Mark his steps clearly that he might see the way you would have him to go. ...and thank you for giving us the opportunity to see you in all things once again...may this nations eyes turn to you in this election.

Wildmon ... group advocates for home schoolers.
Santorum’s children are home schooled.

Santorum woulda made sense. How many homeschoolers are in Iowa?

I just watched Santorum on Greta and he was real happy about getting an endorsement and I thought it was American Family Something so I did a Google search. It appears that Gingrich got an endorsement from the founder of the organization, but not the organization itself.

American Family Association did NOT Endorse
