CNN Poll: President's approval nearing 50%

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's approval rating, a crucial indicator of his reelection chances, is on the rise, according to a new national survey.

A CNN/ORC International Poll out Tuesday also indicates that the partisan battle over extending the payroll tax cut may be partially responsible for the jump in the president's numbers.

Full results (pdf)

According to the survey, 49% of Americans approve of the job Obama's doing in the White House, up five points from last month, with 48% saying they disapprove, down six points from mid-November. The 49% approval rating is the president's highest since May, when his number hit 54% thanks to a bounce following the killing of Osama bin Laden. Since then, in CNN polling, Obama's approval rating has hovered in the mid-40s.

"President Barack Obama's approval rating appears to be fueled by dramatic gains among middle-income Americans," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "The data suggest that the debate over the payroll tax is helping Obama's efforts to portray himself as the defender of the middle class."

The rating is a poll and these can be massaged easily. Look at how the unemployment rate is massaged too.

Not only is this Pravda Propaganda Piece (PPP) utter BS, IMO don't see it having any real world effect when it comes time to do the actual voting.

Voters enter the polling booth, make their choices only on what is of individual concern to them, on the single opportunity they have in making things better for themselves.

If they're under economic distress, reeling under the financial hardships wrought about by Obama's design to destroy America, they will vote their anger, frustration as those whose Obama's policies have been so disastrous to. To read how Obama has helped others within the middle class when you're doing "not nearly as well" will only serve to antagonize, alienate those who don't see themselves as part of those who've been helped.

There's no way of knowing what sort of people they talked with other than a relatively small number of registered voters, because ORC International does not provide party affiliation breakdowns in their polls. Get that? They ask the respondents which party they belong to, but do not reveal the answer in their cross-tab numbers.

Looking at the internals though, you can see the skew - especially in a poll where white males don't appear to be terribly fond of the Tea Party - yeah, right.

Maybe these poll numbers are not taking the “Bradley Effect” into consideration.

“Ignoring polls is idiotic.”

Well that depends on the polls and the motivation of the pollster. If the poll is valid and conducted by those without a vested intersted in the outcome, heed the results. However, if the poll is condiucted by those that are biased and pushing for an outcome, be skeptical. This is not always easy; ignorance has its risks as does being duped. The Leftist media pushes the envelope of reality just enough in their preferred direction to influence opinion while retaining some semblence of credibility with ‘swing’ voters. It’s kind of like airbushing pictures of fashion models before publication.

However, in the final analysis, we must always suspect the ill intentions of the Leftists and their media accomplices. We have seen global warming, Keynesian economics, green energy hoaxes that have and continue to wreak havoc on our society. We must continue to proclaim the truth and pray that we can overcome ignorance.

Any one poll can be skewed, but if you use something like the RCP average you can see clear trends. There is no doubt that Hussein is trending up.

Unfortunately, you are correct. The mere fact that this Marxist SOB could even possibly be reelected makes me mourn as to what on earth has happened to our once great Republic?

How many Americans will hear that obama is screaming back in approval ratings and that the economy is improving... about 150 million... rasmussen will reach maybe 4 to 5 million.

Most people are followers, always have been and always will be. Were a majority of our citizens really ever all that great and smart? They voted for FDR 4 times in a row. FDR was a socialist and changed this country for the worse in ways we have never recovered from. Our supposedly "great" citizens also voted for LBJ and we got more socialism in the form of the Great Society. Americans also gave us Carter, probably the worst President in modern history. Obama is simply continuing that push towards the big nanny state. The sad fact is, it is basically what a majority of Americans probably want. They may be leery of it, they may still maintain some distrust of government, but at the end of the day socialism is a drug and the more people get the more they want.

Intersting thing about this poll...one of the questions was along the lines of: do you like obama personally

all polling segments had him high 70% approval
how much will this “likability” factor play into the general election ?

Maybe if we had someone that we trusted to back in this race... maybe if we Conservatives had someone that had what it takes to take the fight to this kenyan and his nazi cabal... then we could focus on obama. We have an elected leadership that vowed to support the TEA Party... boehner said he heard us clearly... but they will not fight back against obama... they will not take the fight to the American people... they refuse to explain in terms Americans can grasp... exactly what is at stake... what is wrong... who is at fault and how best to stop our ship from sinking... nope... we are force fed putrid candidates and then when we discuss and debate their shortcomings... we are attacked because will will not accept the status quo and support another rino progressive.

Rush said today that the leadership thinks this is just another election. They think obama is just another dim president to run against. They laugh behind our backs when we say that our republic is close to collapse and revolution! Blame them and get off the backs of those fighting the enemy in both parties... because there is no difference in progressives from either party... not a dimes bit of difference... an R or D behind their name implies nothing. A progressive is a progressive is a progressive... and we have a progressive party because the leadership are spineless cowards and progressives.

They should piss you off Mike... most Americans believe them. No one is pointing out in the mainstream that these are lies... no republican leaders are walking up to a mic and calling these polls lies and explaining and defending our ideology and our team.
