Posted on 12/20/2011 6:56:45 PM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks
In June of 1976, I was Ron Paul’s speechwriter. Shortly after I joined his staff as his newsletter writer and economic analyst, I recommended that he do what I had been doing for a year: buy a Code-A-Phone telephone answering machine and make a weekly 3-minute recording for people in his districts to call. He could send the tape to his office in the district, where the machine would be set up at a local phone number. Residents could call it for free. He thought this was a good idea. So began his weekly speeches.
I wrote his first talk. He later told me that he didn’t like reading a script written by anyone else, so he had decided to record his own. As far as I know, that was the last speech anyone ever wrote for him.
He used that machine for the next two-and-a-half years. After his defeat in November 1976, he posted a weekly phone message. The weekly report became a tool for a comeback. In 1978, he defeated the man who had barely defeated him (268 votes) in 1976.
So, having been his only speechwriter, I will now offer my second speech that he will not deliver.
* * * * * * * * * * *
My Fellow Americans, as an earlier President from Texas used to say.
I would like to take this opportunity to say something that is both profound and memorable. The trouble is, only two inaugural addresses are remembered today, Lincoln’s second inaugural and John F. Kennedy’s only inaugural. Lincoln said these words: “With malice toward none and charity toward all.” Those are fine words. Kennedy said: “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” I especially like the first sentence.
Given the fact that hardly anyone remembers an inauguration speech, the likelihood of my saying something both profound and memorable today is low. Therefore, I have decided to do something memorable instead.
[He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a piece of paper that he has typed. He holds it down to the podium with his left hand. He reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a pen.]
I have in front of me a piece of paper. I wrote it this morning. Let me read it to you.
Executive Order 13,601: An executive Order Revoking all Previous Executive Orders.
I, Ron Paul, do hereby declare null and void all previous Presidential executive orders.
Signed: Ron Paul, January 20, 2013.
The Constitution of the United States made no provision for executive orders. Congress never votes to create one, yet executive orders have the force of law. The Constitution says that all laws must be passed by a majority in both houses of Congress and then be signed by the President. Therefore, during my time as President, the government of the United States will be run exclusively by laws that were passed in accordance with the Constitution. I do not have the authority to repeal laws on my own. I do have the authority to repeal executive orders. I have just repealed 13,600 of them.
From this point on, you are not obligated to conform to rules and regulations issued under executive orders. Of course, the various executive departments of the United States government will do their best to ignore this, so you had better check with your lawyer.
Just in case someone is prosecuted under a now-defunct executive order, I will pardon anyone so convicted. I may have to spend the second half of my first term in office signing pardons, nine to five, but that would be a very good use of my time. I will come out of the oval office to give a few speeches and hold some press conferences, but you will know that I am doing useful work in my office. I am going to get my branch of the government off people’s backs. I say this with malice toward none and charity toward all.
I hope to have good relationship with the press. If some diligent reporter digs up some dirt on what some agency has done, legally or illegally, or in planning to do, he can ask me about it at a press conference. I’ll do what I can to fix it. Because the government is spying on the people, the least I can do is to cooperate with the press when the press spies on the government.
I will run my office with these rules:
First, I will veto any bill that I think is not authorized by the Constitution. If Congress overrides my veto, that is Congress’s responsibility. They call me “Dr. No.” That’s who I am.
Second, I plan to close hundreds of American military bases in foreign nations. They will be auctioned off, with the money going to reduce the federal deficit. I will announce the first action no later than March 1 of this year.
Third, I will ask Congress to mandate a complete audit of the Federal Reserve System annually by the Government Accountability Office. I want to know where the government’s gold is and who has legal title to it.
Fourth, this afternoon, I will order the Joint Chiefs of Staff to plan the removal of all troops from Afghanistan this year, preferably by June 30.
Fifth, I remind the voters and the world that anyone with the power to fix the nation by political action has the power to destroy the nation by political power. I am not here to make America better. I am here to veto laws that will hinder American citizens from making America better. I am here to help keep the federal government from making America worse.
In his first letter to Timothy, chapter 2, the Apostle Paul told Timothy to tell the churches to pray for civil rulers. I strongly suggest to churches they do just this, weekly. Twice a week would be twice as good.
Now, I must bring this speech to a close. I wish you the best in building a better America. I will do what I can to free you from the burden of excessive government regulations, so that you can do this.
Our “government” will fall to rp like a mexican cartel will fall to a taco stand.
instead of “Hail to Chief” the marine band will strike up “The Shrimpboats are Coming”
Sounds like a nut case to me.
For those interested ping!
When in there will he send the blacks back to Africa and build ghettos for the Jews? Will the Masons just be outlawed or rounded up?
What an old fool. Disgusting. An idiot.
Gary North and Ron Paul. No shock there. A fruit and nut cup.
“What an old fool. Disgusting. An idiot.”
There are two people standing between mittens and his gop coronation; Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. Newt has his own problems right now. And Ron Paul will likely run third party anyway.
Your menu choices will be mittens, barky, and Ron Paul. Enjoy voting for mittens.
“Sounds like a nut case to me.”
Naaaah. Just a Constitutionalist who favors very limited government.
An interesting speech, and a very good summation of how Ron Paul appears to think.
“When in there will he send the blacks back to Africa and build ghettos for the Jews? Will the Masons just be outlawed or rounded up?”
Naaah. But the gop and ‘rats will have to learn to live life without a lip clamp on the public teat.
Wow, I hadn't heard Gary North's name since he lost whatever was left of his mind in his panic and hysteria over the Y2K Apocalypse he believed was coming.
The two of them do belong together.
“Second, I plan to close hundreds of American military bases in foreign nations. They will be auctioned off, with the money going to reduce the federal deficit. I will announce the first action no later than March 1 of this year.”
“Third, I will ask Congress to mandate a complete audit of the Federal Reserve System annually by the Government Accountability Office. I want to know where the governments gold is and who has legal title to it.”
“Fourth, this afternoon, I will order the Joint Chiefs of Staff to plan the removal of all troops from Afghanistan this year, preferably by June 30.”
This is what any person, knowing what the Founding Fathers believed, would do.
No foreign adventures. If we are attacked by terrorists or pirates, obliterate their nation of origin. If we had done that with Afghanistan and Somalia, how much better the world would be today.
Being the world’s policeman is bankrupting this nation - we are over $15Trillion in debt. And for what? We’re hated and reviled around the world.
If that were the only thing that mattered, he’d have a point. It isn’t, by a long shot.
So I take it you’re a Truther too...
I pray for civil rulers all the time. Where are they, Lord?
Doesn't Congressman Paul lead the committee that can do that audit this year, and next year?
Has he initiated such an audit?
What's he doing about his concern as Chair of the committee?
Not sure who I’d vote for in that scenario. Ron Paul would be extremely tempting.
Have you heard the words of those who attacked us on 9/11 as to why they did so? I confess, I have not, but I assume the attacks were not without motivation/provocation. Would you poke a rattlesnake with a stick, and then call someone a “truther” because they said the snake attacked on account of your poking?
You know, that does sound like something Ron Paul might do
They also attacked us while Clinton was President, they were also attacking us back in the 80’s. Islam is at war with the whole world.
True enough. I’m only asking if they’ve attacked without reason or provocation. After all, we did decide to make “home” in their turf, right? Is that smart? Take up residence with rattlesnakes? Again I ask, have you heard them explain the reason for their attacks in their own words, or shall we just stick our fingers in our ears?
I remember one of Osama binDyin’s first video messages addressed to the people of the United States after 9/11. He demanded our immediate conversion to Islam as a condition to preclude further attacks. So, I guess you (and RuPaul) are right, it was our fault. Our fault for not being Muslims, that is.
I admit I once found something refreshing about libertarianism, many years ago. There are aspects of it I can and do still support.
BUT, had we as a nation practiced this branch of the ideology for the last, say, 100 years- we would all be speaking German or Russian now I fear...
Islam is attacking every country on Earth in turn. They have spread across northern Africa and are all the way to the Pacific. They are gaining population in Europe and other countries. They are commanded to conquer the world by the sword.
They don’t need provocation.
On economics they often make sense. Outside of that they are insane.
Do you even know what a Truther is?
Truthers believe our government had a hand in blowing up the trade center/Pentagon to create a war for its own ends.
As far as Islam goes, get a clue. Everywhere Islam is in control they kill and/or enslave all those who are not Muslim.
Most, if not all, of foreign military bases are not owned by the U.S. government, and cannot be sold or auctioned by the U.S. government.
And Lew Rockwell was one of Paul’s speechwriters.
I’ll give them some room on personal freedom, but as an areligious philosophy, there is no value base to guide them as to which “free” behaviors are actually detrimental to society. So, they miss it on law enforcement, the military and the role of the USA in the world in a huge way.
They fall into the same trap as so many leftists/communists that people are perfectable.
I haven’t seen or heard, but if that is the only reason for the attack - that we are not Muslim - I would be surprised.
Well then, by your definition, Ron Paul is not a Truther.
Ron Pauls speech writer should be SLAPPED.. with an eyepoke..
I have. UBL issued a fatwa in 1998. His two biggest complaints were the sanctions against Iraq (a country that allegedly had nothing to do with him) and our bases in Saudi Arabia (a country that expelled him and prohibited him from ever entering again).
In the land of Paul, apparently our foreign policy should be determined by the dictates of mass murdering islamist sociopaths.
Alex Jones and Ron Paul are good buddies. Ron Paul is a long running guest on Alex Jones’ radio show. Alex Jones is a major Truther.
It does not hurt to pause and consider whether people under our hire have dictated our foreign policy apart from our interests as a people. How much of our resources have gone into supporting people abroad, and in our own midst, who prefer slavery over freedom?
Guilt by assocation does not make for good fact checking. Sorry.
Dude, they agree with each other on the show.
And associations do matter.
Would you say the same thing about people who hang out with Rev Wright? Or members of the KKK? Or self declared NAZIS?
Not this $hit again....
You folks would have been the ones apologizing to Hirohito and Yamamoto after Pearl Harbor was attacked. We probably “had it coming” then also...
It is one thing to ascribe motives to the attackers on account of our actions on their turf. It is another to assert our own leaders plotted and carried out the 9/11 attacks. Please direct me to some link or evidence where Ron Paul asserts the latter. Thanks!
Watched the whole thing. Paul does not in any way assert that our own government planned and executed the attacks. I would expect the fed to cover its tracks inasmuch as they are complicit in setting up shop on rattlesnake turf.
But I must yield to the truth that militant Muslims are a genuine threat, not to be underestimated on a temporal basis. Same goes for socialists and communists. In the greater scheme of things, Ron Paul does not concern me in the least when it comes to governance, nor do the other contenders with the exception of Zero . . . who needs to GO AWAY.
So the crackpot Paul refused to let anyone write his speeches yet for decades he claims he did not write the racist vile newsletters that had his name on them? More Ron Paul BS.
I love revoking all executive orders. I’ve always said that if given the power, I’d do the same thing. The vetoes, too. I’ve occasionally said that if I ever somehow stumbled into that office, my first act would be to send an intern down to the office supply store to get a lot of ink pads and a lot of rubber stamps saying “VETO”.
“So the crackpot Paul refused to let anyone write his speeches yet for decades he claims he did not write the racist vile newsletters that had his name on them?”
Who knows? Given the timeframe - about 15-25 years ago, who really cares?
I realize of course that on anti-Ron Paul threads the fact that he might have picked his nose 10 years ago is of paramount importance, but for most folks it’s ancient history.
