WASHINGTON (AFP) — US Senator John McCain voiced satisfaction Monday that late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il is "in a warm corner of hell" and called for efforts to bring an end to his family's regime.

McCain, a Republican lawmaker who was his party's nominee for president in 2008, said that Kim subjected his people to "dire poverty and cruel oppression under one of the most totalitarian regimes the world has ever known."

"The world is a better place now that Kim Jong-Il is no longer in it," McCain said.

"I can only express satisfaction that the Dear Leader is joining the likes of Kadhafi, bin Laden, Hitler and Stalin in a warm corner of hell," he said in a statement.

McCain had better be careful with his declaration of who is and is not in hell.

Somehow I expect hell to be chock full of politicians, lawyers and judges whose decisions in this life have negatively affected the welfare and happiness of millions of people.

Their guilt is multiplied by the number of people they wronged and drowned in misery.

Well, John old boy, it isn’t their regime that needs to be ended, it is the form of government that they practice and inflict upon the NK people. I’m sure most of them would be glad to stop eating tree bark.

He probably will be warm for quite a while. That is, he drank a whole bottle of cognac every day.

I disagree with John McCain. I think Kim Jung Il is in a “hot” corner of hell.

Boy, McCain really went out on a limb here. Next he’ll be telling us the same thing happened to Bin Laden.

He really is an outspoken maverick.

McCain occasionally says things which make me hate him slightly less.

It wears off.

McCain still has some of that old soldiers attitude, but, you just never know when, where, or to whom it will reemerge. BTW, has Obama yet claimed credit for the latest tyrants death during his watch?
