Santa Claus has been “suspended” at one New Jersey school, after some parents complained it was religious discrimination. Picture day with Santa is a long-standing tradition at Calabro Elementary School. But this year, one parent, who is Jewish, pointed out other traditions weren’t being represented, reports CBS 2’s Kathryn Brown.

“Did the school do the right thing?”
Liberals have an arrogance so thick and heavy its a burdon on the whole of society. A JEWISH parent is complaining that a SECULAR costumed man is promoting a childhood SECULAR tradition. Oh my word...how aweful...the school should pay that family (read scummy lying hate-filled liberal woman) money!
“Christmas is an official US federal holiday for ALL Americans”
You need to stop saying this out loud or they will vote THAT away too.
I don’t see why they would be upset about a Secular symbol like Santa.
Actually, one of the better South Park's. Early SP, but shows when you take everything out of Christmas that might possible offend someone, you have nothing left!
It’s not for all Americans. We Jews are forbidden to celebrate Christmas as it is a Christian holiday, even if it has become secularized.
The death of our culture & way of life; there is nothing “Christian” about Santa Claus. St. Nicholas is one thing; Santa Claus has become an American distortion of that, used to market toys.
South Park - A Lonely Jew on Christmas
It’s hard to be a Jew on Christmas.
My friends won’t let me join in any games.
And I can’t sing Christmas songs or decorate a Christmas tree
Or leave water out for Rudolph, cause there’s something wrong with me.
My people don’t believe in Jesus Christ divinity..
I’m a Jew, a lonely Jew, on Christmas.
Hannukah is nice, but why is it
That Santa passes over my house every year.
And instead of eating ham I have to eat kosher latki
Instead of Silent Night I’m singing “Hu, haghtol gavish”
And what the f*ck is up with lighting all these f*cking candles tell me please..
I’m a Jew, a lonely Jew,
I’d me merry, but I’m Hebrew
I remember seeing that one. A bunch of kids standing on stage dressed in gray singing “Happy Happy Happy” in a monotone.
I still think some liberal would be offended by the word “happy” because it suggests, well, happiness. When you cut through it all, liberals hate happiness, joy, individual success and all that is bright and beautiful. Years ago that would be an exaggeration, but now I really believe it. They are so miserable that they cannot stand seeing the joy of others and are driven to stomp on it.
Again this year, in my *very* Jewish co-op on the East Side of Manhattan, the Jewish mommies lovingly decorated our lobby CHRISTMAS TREE...and placed gifts for local charities around the base. Kids played dreidel in its shadow, and everyone was happy.
Did the school do the right thing? Of course not. But it does illustrate precisely why we need to abolish all public schools along with the taxes they consume and pay for our children’s unfettered, unpoliticized, American education.
“and a kinara to represent Kwanzaa.”
Which no student of any ethnicity or faith recognized, because nobody in the real world celebrates Kwanzaa.
Notice, btw, the school failed to make any effort to recognize Festivus.
I’m adding that to my list for the Airing of Grievances this year.
the Rabbi should know better, most school districts, especially those in NY and NJ DO teach about the various holidays in the classroom as part of their social studies curriculum, children from kindergarten on do projects about them, color pictures and sing various songs about those holidays. The pictures with Santa were optional, not forced on the children and no pictures would have been taken for those children who didn't have a signed permission slip. Jewish and non Christian children are not forced to pose with Santa and some non-Christians like some Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists do pose with Santa.
Do they ever?
So I trust that in your own private home, someone has a gun to your head forcing you to “celebrate” Christmas??
Yes, it is a holiday for ALL meaning schools are closed, people are off work, no banking, Wall St trading, or mail service. Give me a break.
The killers of Christmas reguard Santa Claus is their sworn enemy.
And rightly so.
You give me a break. I don’t celebrate Christmas because I’m not a Christian.Just because everything is closed it does not mean that it’s a holiday for the Jews, too.
No one forces me to celebrate Christmas. my family does because they are Christian and I am a convert to Judaism. I spend time with them but I don’t go to church.
You give me a break. I dont celebrate Christmas because Im not a Christian >>
Christmas is a federal holiday, non-Christians, atheists, pagans, etc. have a day off and don’t celebrate anything except for living in the greatest country in the world on one of that country’s federal holidays. It’s a great day to go see a movie, eat some chineese food and catch up on the laundry.
Fine. Just don’t stop the rest of us from celebrating it. I wouldn’t ever want to see Judaism and Jews denied theirs.
It the government were really serious about the ‘’separation of church and state’’ it would stay open on Christmas.
We have our liberal asses, and unfortunately, the can speak and vote. There ought to be a law against stupidity. That would eliminate most Democrats from voting or wrecking our schools and traditions.
Happy Chanukah, everyone!
I’ll skip Kwannza Hut and go for Greek Christmas, then Vietnamese Tet and Chinese New Year. Those groups know how to party and have great food.
Ever eat Kwanzza crap?
I stumbled on an obituary for Robert Engel, a Jewish survivor of the holocaust. (Alan Barnes:Toronto Star. 1999). "Robbie" Engel was a driving force for 14 years for the Star's Christmas Children's Fund. He gave much of his time and effort. He said he got his reward by seeing the smiling kids.
Yoo Hoo. I am a Judaic type person my own self. Orthdox even. And there is no one in the whole wide world forcing me to celebrate anything. Is your faith so insecure that the mere sight of someone else celebrating challenges you?
Agreed. What I should have said in my previous post, was that the complainants were on a power trip. Giving their own people the reputation of being killjoys. I gave the examples of certain persons elsewhere of being simply a mensch about Santa.
What? all I’m saying is that Christmas is for Christians, not Jews.
When did I say I want people to stop celebrating Christmas?
What are you talking about?
Boy do some of the people here love to twist things around.
Yes. My mother has a .38 Special to my temple and forces me to decorate the tree.
I am not allowed to light my menorah. It is strictly forbidden.
What a stupid waste of goodwill by those parents. Having a Santa at school isn’t going to hurt their kids or turn them away from Judaism.
Stupid liberal Jews should keep their hands off Christmas and think more about Chanukah and Israel. These stupid Jews just make for Christian dislike of Jews flaunting their bs views. (I am Jewish) Jews should be defending Christmas and wishing a Merry Christmas to their Christian friends. This is the real meaning of religious freedom in America.
Kwanza isn't a holiday. It was made up 43 years ago by a black communist.
Santa should not be at school, because it is a secular perversion of Christianity. >>
that’s one of the points, santa is more of an American cultural icon and the reason why it should be accepted by non-Christians, atheists and the like. I say what’s the big deal to pose with him at school for a picture, as a matter of fact, if you go on my facebook page there is me in a santa suit at a public school.
No you didn’t say that. I’m saying the ‘’tyranny of the minority’’ rears it’s head in the form of a Jewish parent who evidently has a boring life or is very afraid of it and creates a bogus ‘’harm’’ where none had existed previously, confusing a secular icon seen in conjunction at a certain time of year that a particular Christian holiday is celebrated and suddenly it’s state-sponsered religion and so a little more joy and innocence for ALL kids is killed. And your rather dramatic ‘Christmas is forbidden for Jews’’ came cross as over the top and others on this thread apparently felt similar as I did.
Well,it is forbidden for Jews. We are forbidden from celebrating any Christian holiday. I’m all for Christmas. I’m not threatened by it.
Why was my comment dramatic? How was it over-the-top?
Yoo,hoo! I’m not saying anyone’s forcing you to celebrate Christmas!
I’m not insecure in my faith. I’m a convert to Judaism so clearly I’m quite comfortable in my faith.
Let’s not twist things around.
Fine. Don't celebrate it. Just don't pee on people who DO like celebrating it.
Which part of the Tora is it that forbids you from celebrating Christmas? Chapter and verse if you please.
The point of the article is that here there is a Jewish parent who was so offended by the idea of Christmas and Santa that he got it taken away for everyone. That's really going to promote good feelings, is it?
Having grown up in NYC, it seemed to me, who attended Catholic school, the kids in public schools benefited from both the Christian and Jewish holidays, because the public schools were always closed for Jewish holidays. Oh, and us Christians who used public transportation suffered because the buses and subways operated on "holiday" schedules and it made it difficult for us to get to school on time. Fortunately, the nuns were aware of that fact and there were no "lates" given out on Jewish holidays in my Catholic High School.
Relax guys and stop taking things the wrong way.
I’m not peeing on those who like celebrating it. My family does.
There are no specific verses that forbid us from celebrating Christmas, but it is a Christian holiday and we do not believe Jesus is G-d in the flesh. We do not believe he was born to a virgin.
We believe G-d is one and completely indivisible and that the trinity breaks G-d into threes, which is polytheism, not monotheism. G-d makes it very clear that He is not a man and that He cannot be seen. I can provide verses if you’d like.
I don’t know why she’d be offended.
It doesn’t make her look very good, does it?
