...this years average cost of fuel sets a new record. For 2011, the national average price for fuel is about $3.50 a gallon. That accounts for about 8.4% of the average American family’s income, the highest percentage in 30 years.

The average American household will have spent, a record, $4,155 filling up this year. Though it’s not what some Eastern Iowans wanted to hear, for many it wasn’t a surprise.

Sorry, I did misstate...the fact is still bad; gas prices cost more in 2011 than any time in recent history. Here is the exact quote from the article:

The average American household will have spent,a record, $4,155 filling up this year.

I’m just saying that it’s not realistic that the figure is $4155 more per family. Just a back-of-the-envelope calculation. The miles driven per year per driver may be more like 20k miles. I don’t trust .gov figures any more than you!

Democrats were running around blaming Bush for years and years to distract everyone from the damage they were doing to our economy. There are still millions of people repeating Democrat talking points like a bunch of dummies.
The MSM loves to promote the Democrat Party at the expense of the country.

I do get that mindset, but obviously they have some kind of internal ranking that makes some worse than others. I would guess it’s due to the particular coal being burned as they all have mandated scrubbers.

Obama could lower the price of oil futures by (conservatively)10-15 dollars a barrel tomorrow, without spending a cent. You know how he could do it, too, but for some obscure reason you are not saying. Why is that?

The EPA rules just out will cause a jump of anywhere from 10-35%.

Then, there will be the costs that move through businesses to consumers.

Achieving this in the middle of a deflationary economy is quite a feat...

I did not deny that “oil futures” prices could be affected in short order by different policies from Obama. In fact, “oil futures” prices (”long term” effects) are exactly what I said policy changes would have the most affect on.

However, they will not IMMEDIATELY affect retail gasoline prices much, if at all - as has been often demonstrated - and the affect on long term domestic retail gasoline prices, as well as continuing changes to oil futures prices will depend on many other factors - including global supply, demand and security issues as well.

To suggest that some changes two years ago would have DEFINITELY AND ASSUREDLY delivered lower at-the-pump gasoline prices TODAY, is simply not accurate; and is a misreading of the global energy markets.

How many Freepers have not yet figured out that the Republican party is a fraud? They only thing they really oppose is Ron Paul.

You may be right. Oil prices seem to tank in election years. (which keeps many in the oil patch from donating as generously as they might to the Conservative of their choice).
