Donald Trump Bolts Republican Party, Eyeing Other 2012 Options
ABC News ^ | 12/23/2011 | Michael Falcone

Donald Trump is officially a man without a party. The real estate mogul whose flirtation with the 2012 presidential race has never really ended despite announcing seven months ago he would not seek the Republican nomination has been signaling he wants to find other ways onto a presidential ticket.

Trump took another step in that direction on Thursday, switching his party affiliation from Republican to “unaffiliated,” according to a source close to the reality television star.

According to the source, he did so because he is “disgusted” with the way Republicans are handling matters in Washington, including the recent payroll tax cut deal. But the move also sets Trump up for a potential third-party run for president — a possibility he began talking about almost as soon as he told his fans in May he wasn’t running.

Trump has sought to reach out to the group, Americans Elect, an online, independent presidential nominating organization that has already made it on the ballot in several states, including California.

“Couple Donald Trump’s name recognition with his extraordinary wealth and Americans Elect truly becomes a viable force in determining who the next president will be,” Trump’s top political adviser Michael Cohen told ABC News. “One thing is for certain, Donald Trump is adamant that Barack Obama must be defeated in 2012 under any circumstances.”

This is not the first time Trump has changed his party registration. He registered as a Republican in the late 1980′s, then switched to the Democratic Party in 2001 only to return to the GOP in 2009. Trump hinted at an independent bid for president as recently as last week.

I say it would be “transformed” as opposed to an outright demise.

Think of “Airstrip One” (the former British Isles) or Oceania from ‘1984’.

I mean, there’s still a Rome; it’s just not the Roman Empire, running around planting SPQR standards everywhere like they used to.

There’ll still be a U.S.A.; it’ll just be “transformed” from the U.S.A. we grew up in (I grew up in the 70s and 80s). I foresee it as being significantly less prosperous, more rigidly controlled by the security and intelligence apparatus, and less engaged throughout the world. Still a force to be reckoned with, but not like it was in its heyday.

I am tempted at times to leave the party also and register independent. Alleged “leaders” like Boehner shame us all.

Come on everyone!

Trump is never going to run for President.

He is making noise for his Apprentice Show and pitching a book.

The more he is in the news the more his brands retain their value.

He can’t run.

He has a contract with ABC that runs through May 2013, when his show ends.

Now, unless we have a brokered convention the choices for President and Veep will be known around then.

Also, about that time, Trump will have another book or he will be all over the airways extolling the success of his show(It’ll be #1 in its time slot), He will tell everyone how successful he was in writing the most read business book...Ehvuh(The Art of the Deal) and then he will tell you how “fabulous” his latest book is.

This will be interspersed with talk about Mara Lago(The most beautiful home in America), his gold courses and that he is a very good and competitive player(Anyone who plays at these places wants to come back in a “Have to” way.

From there it will close about his casinos in AC, his fabulous properties around the world and talk will be about his latest building project(WhoreAldo! We build the most Beautiful properties in the Wohld!)

IT’S YOOGE!

A little smattering about his cash position and how he is buying properties.......

Yada, Yada Yada.....

Trump is not running and has never been serious about the Presidency.

Besides, anyone think he’d be chosen in a brokered convention?

Anyone?

Baloney?

Anyone?

He’s a big government liberal, a pro choice pro union pro crony capitalist man who is all about himself.

You are way too obsessed with “who owes who what” or perhaps way too convinced that such arrangements are the driving force for everything. The “do as they’re told” notion that some smoke filled back room is where the universe is run from is likely something I cannot disabuse you of so I won’t try.

Lol, he’ll funnel more Democrat voters away from Obama. Nobody will vote for this guy unless Mitt is in.

Ross Perot gave the election to Clinton. The first step into the abyss....

Bull!

The American electorate "gave" the election to Clinton. The Republican party refused to address legitimate concerns of Perot and his followers and they suffered the consequences.

“Ross Perot gave the election to Clinton. The first step into the abyss....”

That statement is foolish. Ross Perot didn’t give the election to Clinton, George Bush gave the election to Clinton by not positioning himself as the best candidate.

If he had stood up for the same things as Ross Perot did, people like me would not have voted for Perot and would have supported Bush.

History is repeating itself, and again the problem is not Trump or Ron Paul, but rather the lack of a true alternative within the current crop of “Republicans”

But...where to go? That’s the question!

All should take notice that Ron Paul was the first candidate with the guts to stand up to this fool and rightly ridicule his role as the host of a “presidential debate”

I really wish this guy would go away.

He inherits a couple hundred million and now he thinks his opinion counts for something.

“Yep..........hello second term for President Obama. Looks like we have another 4 years of taxpayer-funded Hawaiian vacations and globetrotting with Air Force One to look forward to.”

It appears the elites who really wield power behind the scenes in this country have decided Obama will have a second term just like they decided George H.W. Bush would be a one term president. Ross Perot ran in 1992 and 1996 knowing he would split the GOP vote and ensure a Clinton presidency. Now it is appearing likely Trump will run to ensure the GOP candidate fails.

No doubt the internal polls show Obama will lose running against virtually anyone in a two person race. However, Trump has name recognition and many conservatives are disgusted enough with the GOP establishment dissing the Tea Party to vote for a perceived viable alternative. Perot actually drew 19% of the vote in 1992 and 8.4% in 1996. Trump should easily capture at least 10% as a 3rd party which will allow Obama to win the election with 41% or possibly less of the popular vote assuming most of the Trump votes come from independents and disaffected Republicans who would vote for the GOP in a 2 way race.

Trump is a colorful character but is definitely part of the elite establishment. He would not run if he thought his business interests would be harmed by a campaign he knows he cannot win. If he throws his hat in the ring we will know the elites have met behind the curtain and anointed the Donald as a spoiler. He will gladly put on a show for the sheeple and then enjoy the profits from the business deals he’ll be promised to play the role. Perhaps George Soros will be the first to drop a big check in Trump’s Swiss bank account.

You’re right. Trump seemed to be a Democrat for years, he’s friends with Schumer, gave money to Rahm Emmanuel, has real estate interests in Chicago, has a show on NBC, is a ringer for Obama, and will support Obama just like everyone else on NBC and MSNBC. He will do their bidding to advance his economic interests.

>>The Republican party is a joke and NOT an opposition power<<

Republicans brought us the first $800 billion stimulus handout courtesy of GWB as he was leaving office.

GWB pushed until passage of the Rx drug benefit to the tune of billions.

Patriot act and defense authorization act...all of which are instrumental in the largest erosion of personal liberties in American history.

Latest debt ceiling debacle...caved as they always do.

Not to mention 10 to 12 years of war in the middle east which has cost thousands of American lives and wounded 4 times the death toll. Cost hundreds of billions to over a trillion dollars.

Now, the Iraqi barbarians revert back to their murderous ways days after we exit. What a price we've paid. Barely a drop of oil in compensation.

Our leaders are crooked as the day is long, both sides of the isle.

Oh, I remember this guy. Didn't he say something about a HUGE sucking sound of jobs leaving this country?

Why, I do believe he was right as well as a huge sucking sound of dollars leaving the treasury in a huge black hole.

Republican/Democrat? I'm thinking a viable 3rd party ticket might not be such a bad idea.

If O-bozo gets back in there, then so be it. The faster this igmo breaks it, the faster we can get to fixin it.

Besides, I'd rather know who the crooks and liars are than have a chameleon in the office like George “compassionate conservative” Bush or John “The Maverick for Change” McCain.
