Sheriff Joe 'suspicious' of motive behind Obama attacks
WND ^ | December 25, 2011 | Bob Unruh

Posted on 12/25/2011 7:48:56 PM PST by Smokeyblue

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona's Maricopa County has been under fire for his immigration law-enforcement policies from protesters who simply object to what he's doing, in a lawsuit alleging his department profiles on race, and from the federal government which has canceled agreements with his department to check for violators who arrive at his jail.

Now he's wondering just how much of that displeasure from Washington is being generated by the perceived White House alarm over his Cold Case Posse investigation checking out suspicions raised by area tea-party officials that Barack Obama may use or try to use fraudulent documents to be on the 2012 presidential ballot in Arizona.

In an interview with WND, the sheriff said, "I am an elected sheriff. I took an oath of office to enforce all the laws of the state of Arizona. I take that very seriously. I do report to the people."

But he said he's considering the possibility there are political connections to the circumstances that have developed.

"The investigation, I'm not sure that's part of the puzzle or not. I wonder why they are going after me," he said. "I'm a little suspicious of what's going on. The reason I'm suspicious is that the president mentioned me recently."

He was talking about Barack Obama's recent discussion with some Hispanic journalists, and the question one raised about the government's investigation of Arpaio regarding his civil-rights record.

"The president didn't like the way I enforce 1070 (a state law regarding immigration)," he said.

I agree with Grut here. I mean, Arpaio is doing his job - a helluva lot better than anyone else with this level of coverage. Like making prison a place that people ACTUALLY stay out of, for one.

But I too am not willing to place him on a pedestal. From a few people I know on the inside, he has a mean streak in him too. Again, it’s within the law - But he can break some balls in a way that only a sheriff can. And his department has guys who Code 3 just to get through intersections, just like another police department.

I’m not looking for it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has SOME sort of something going on that goes against his position.

Regardless of their efforts or their results, I just can’t find it in me to idolize authority. Respect it, yes. But not idolize it. And I see that a lot of idolization occurs towards this man, including here on FR.

Actually, more and more County Sheriffs are standing up to the Feds. Mine is!

Just hasn’t gone after Zero’s eligibility. Arpaio is beacuse a group of citizens asked him to.

Hmmm/

Who the hell said anything about “idolizing” Arpaio?

I’m withholding judgment for now, but if Sheriff Arpaio did actually succeed in indubitably exposing the fraud that put the Fraud in Chief into our the people’s house, well then a small, unprepossessing shrine might be in order. ;)

Which does make the theory behind the article rather far-fetched. If the investigation of Arpaio’s civil rights abuses was motivated by the Sheriff’s embrace of birtherism, how did the feds manage to start first? Crystal ball? Time machine?

Now the other direction — the Sheriff went all cold-case posse out of anger at being investigated himself — that makes sense.

"little jeremiah wrote: “They’ve been after Arpaio for years and years and can’t get him.” For corruption, in context with lj's post and the one preceding it.

"Which does make the theory behind the article rather far-fetched. If the investigation of Arpaio’s civil rights abuses was motivated by the Sheriff’s embrace of birtherism, how did the feds manage to start first? Crystal ball? Time machine?" Which means that your baloney tie in doesn't work, since the current DOJ action and inaction on immigration matters has nothing to do with any attempt to dig up corruption/dirt on Sheriff Arpaio in the past, but rather is recent overt action by Holder's (and by extension Obama's) inJustice Department that is directly detrimental to the MCSO's ability to determine the status of people entering their jails, and then providing one out of a "promised" fifty federal personnel to pick up the slack when the DOJ cuts off access to immigration databases by deputies. That, to my mind, constitutes a major escalation in hostilities.

Now the other direction — the Sheriff went all cold-case posse out of anger at being investigated himself — that makes sense. Yep, makes perfect sense for the guy to go against people holding the most powerful of the levers of power on the planet just to insulate himself from criticism on the immigration front. I mean, that "birther" armor will certainly deflect any flak that might come his way over immigration enforcement, right?

Dude. Really? You're not even trying, today. S'matter? Too much turkey?

Things have sure stepped up recently from Obama Admin, going after Sheriff Joe

I just hope the Obama Supporters in the GOP, GOP media, and even on some of the conservative sites...do not turn tail on Joe and the Obama Eligibility issue. Those who have been supporting Obama on the issue have probably been the most traitorious to conservatism and the 2012 campaign.

Obama Eligibility should be a top campaign issue...and the GOP is sure to lose not bringing it to the forefront

You can be sure PhonyCons will soon start attacking Sheriff Joe on the Obama Eligibility issue

We are watching the Federal Government fight against the people of this country when it comes to Illegal Immigration.

They are filing law suits against anybody who is trying to inforce the Federal Law. They are filing law suits against States who pass laws against Illegal Immigration. Boy, I cannot wait until November to see Obama and Holder gone.
