A student was shot was shot dead today at point blank range in a random attack outside a McDonalds, police said.
Armed response units were scrambled to the scene in Salford, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of the morning after the 23-year-old was attacked.

He was part of a group of nine male and female students, all Indian, who were staying in a nearby hotel for a break in Manchester over the Christmas holidays.
He was out with two friends and heading towards the city centre when the gunman approached and engaged the victim in a 'very short' conversation at around 1.30am this morning.
A moment later the killer pulled out the handgun and shot the student in the side of the head, police said. He collapsed to the ground as his killer ran off.

I'll guess it more likely that "Indian"="Hindu from India" and Muslim from either India or Pakistan = "Asian". I'm going to guess it likely that it was Muslim-on-Hindu violence.

It involves choosing a gang “game” leader from the members and then choosing a random victim, who will be charged at by the leader and his followers and then hit on the head until the victim is knocked out. And if the victim doesn’t become immediately unconscious, they savagely beat, punch and kick the victim until the victim loses consciousness. The only intention seems to be to see how quickly they can knock someone out. Such a sickness...or should call it what it really and truthfully is? Evil. When Britons talk of "Asians", they mean people from the Indian subcontinent. There are about equal numbers of ex-Pakistanis and ex-Indians in the UK, so they use Asian to mean either of them.

I agree - there is an increasing amount of what seems to be random violence in the UK. I think its a very bad sign. There are a large number of people in a kind of underclass who just have no respect, no hope, no work ethic, no future and no loyalty to the culture whatsoever. Its bad enough when criminals beat people up to get their money, or because they are the wrong race, but you can kind of understand that (if not approve of it) But there are people now whose main motivation to violence is simple boredom. That really is the sign of a sick society.
Yeah, you could move to Detroit or Washington, or Dearborn, or downtown Los Angeles. Far safer places, especially since you could pack some heat.
I lived in New Orleans, 3rd ward, in 1993, 94. N O was the murder capital of the world then. Sunderland England makes New Orleans look like Mr Rodgers neighbourhood, and the thugs aren’t packing here.
