The rocky, rickety boat that is the New York times has long been in peril of sinking. Now the Times staffers have sent a letter to publisher Arthur Sulzberger expressing "profound dismay" at the direction the company is headed.

The letter calls attention to several grievances. Last week, Times brass notified foreign citizens employed in the paper's overseas bureaus that their pensions would be frozen. In the letter, Times staffers dismayed by this decision point out to Sulzberger that some of these foreign employees, working alongside Times reporters in war zones, have "risked their lives so that we can do our jobs."
The open letter may have been prompted by this and other recent decisions, but it brought to the surface long-simmering tensions. In the past several years, staffers have faced temporary pay cuts, layoffs, and buyouts. They have worked since March without a new contract. Regarding ongoing negotiations, the letter notes that Sulzberger's "negotiators have demanded a freeze of our pension plan and an end to our independent health insurance." O'Meara said staffers did not receive a raise this year.

For years I bought books usually based upon the NYT bestsellers lists of which dominated the market shelves and bookstores.
Now that I have converted to E-books the NYT lists are meaningless, what I search for is independent authors with introductory or even free books, just to get themselves heard.
Die NYT, die in a blaze of old wrinkled yellow paper. You ate the the cookie on socialism plate.

The problem with the NY Times shrinking readership is its op ed page. Staffers should demand their heads.
The Times, like all dead-tree news outlets, is simply being replaced by technology. Their internal fights are death spasms.
That they are left-leaning is not so much the cause but the laugh line in the story.
Oh boo hoo...many Americans saw their salaries go down this year or their job completely gone.

A suggestion for the Slimes... try reporting NEWS without a slant for a change. You’d be surprised at the money you’ll make doing that.

What a caricature of liberal attitudes. They are mad because they aren’t getting enough and resentful of other employees who are getting more than they do.
What, any of these whiners plan on giving up their gold plated pensions and health care plans? Perhaps even reduce their health care plans to something that ONLY costs $1000 a month? No?
Typical liberal ideology... Give them loads of stuff, but don’t you dare take one of my benefits away. When they look at those fellows who were risking their lives in war zones who might not get a pension now, I sure hope that at least one pauses to realize that this is probably JUST from the addition of sex change operation benefits to the company insurance plan. And when these guys hear the sad stories that health benefits are being slashed, they can take comfort that 12% of the staff claims to be gay to give roommates a free ride on the company health plan.
Once again, it is the unacknowledged personal greed that is hurting others.
