Obamas enjoy multi-course tasting menu By Jonathan Easley - 12/29/11 07:35 AM ET

President Obama enjoyed a five-to-seven course tasting menu Wednesday night at a dinner in Honolulu with first lady Michelle Obama and 10 friends.

The dinner at Alan Wong's restaurant in Honolulu comes as the president enjoys his annual holiday break in Hawaii, a vacation nearly cut short by the fight over taxes with Republicans in Washington.

The Obama's are regulars at Wong's restaurant—both gave head chef Wong a hug upon entering before being taken to their “traditional table,” which Wong describes as the “feng shui” seat in the house, according to the pool reports.

The Obamas were part of a group of ten, which included the president’s sister, and the party ordered off a special tasting menu – a multi-course meal designed specifically by the chef.

“The Obama party had a special 5-course tasting menu for $75 a person, $105 per person with wine pairings for each course," according to the pool report. "Highlights include "Sassey Salad" and bacon wrapped pork loin,” according to CNN’s Peter Morris, who the pool report said was at the restaurant when the president arrived.

Other diners generally didn't notice the president's arrival, the pool report said.

The Obamas spent about three hours at the restaurant before returning to their rental at around 11 p.m.

Before the dinner, Obama hit the links, spending nearly seven hours at the Ko’olau golf club with Mike Ramos, Greg Orme and long-time friend Robert Titcomb, who earlier this year plead no contest to soliciting a prostitute in Honolulu.

I just did a Google search on him and found out in Oct 2011 he got the misdemenor expunged from his record because he was such a good boy for six months. I don’t think anyone else would get this lucky.

“Sassey Salad”.
Wow. No wonder our enemies quake in fear at our curtain-hanging, limp-wristed,bicycle-helmeted,can’t throw a baseball, fake president.

"If Zero is Muslim, why is he eating pork?"

Because they are allowed to do anything to fool the Americans.

No wonder he accomplished nothing really memorable as president.

What would you call our interstate highway system? Perhaps you are too young to remember how the country was before that.

Hmmm. Is it proper etiquette to hold it by the shaft or the head? I do know that the grip is important. And the stance as well - just don't use too wide of stance though....

I'll bet the guy was glad he got arrested when he found out afterward that the pretty “girl” wasn't what he thought “she” was.

To quote Gomer Pyle, “surprise, surprise, surprise”.

Really great optics for Obama to be golfing with the guy though. It would only be an issue if a Republican President was involved. Kind of like lighting ALL the Menorah candles and joking about it afterward like Obama did a couple of weeks ago. The guy ain't Teflon, he's Flubber..

I spent more than that on a dinner last month for our 25th.

For vacations we usually enjoy a decent restaurant, and then little coffee shops and dives where the best local food is served.

And next month we will be in NOLA doing just that.

So I have to give him a pass on dinner.

Seven hours on a golf course for a single round is ungentlemanly and he should be publicly flogged for taking twice as long as he should have taken. There is no excuse for that. Take your snowman, pick up your ball and move on. Obviously he has never played golf on a Sunday morning at a municipal course.

Calvin Coolidge was one of our best presidents and he was criticized for doing nothing. The less the politicians do the better off the public is.

I agree he was one of our best presidents. His correct belief was go keep silent (hence “silent Cal”) and let everyone else yammer as they pleased. He just kept his mouth shut and did what he had had to do as president. This drove everybody nuts because of his silence.
