Mitt Romney's confidence is brimming. The former governor, now widely seen as the favorite to win Iowa, announced Wednesday he'll stay in the Hawkeye State the night of the caucus, a clear indication he anticipates a good result. If he does capture Iowa, he'll head into New Hampshire, long his political stronghold, with a chance to become the first non-incumbent GOP presidential candidate ever to win the first two primary contests - a back-to-back triumph that would all but secure the nomination.
So, naturally, his Republican rivals have spent the last week castigating him on the trail and eviscerating him on TV, all in a desperate attempt to slow down his momentum and keep their own campaigns viable. Right? No - they've nearly done the opposite.
In a new radio ad released Wednesday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry set his sights not on Romney but on former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who is enjoying his own surge in Iowa. In the ad and on the campaign trail, Perry criticized Santorum's previous support for earmarks, calling the ex-U.S. senator part of the big-spending Washington establishment. He does not, however, mention Romney.

That’s easy. The fix is in.
You beat me to it.
That is EXACTLY why!
And yes, the fix is in.
It really explains how we ended up with McCain in 08.
Truthful Milt Romney:
"I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform."
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)
Its because he is a RINO and the left wing establishement media wants him in the white house since it looks like Obama will not get reelected.
Good question.
Tell who he really is (a stink’n liberal) here on FR, and the romneybots will set you on fire..............
The only question I have at this point is which one will finish off the Republican Party quicker, Mitt Romney or Ron Paul.
very good question
And it does seem like Paul is just running traffic for Romney in Iowa...he spent loads of money on ads to bury Newt there but has he ever even mentioned Romney?
They do and it’ll most likely be be a quick flame out. poof. Up in smoke.
The article is about why the other Republican candidates aren't attacking Romney.
The reason is that Romney has his 22% or so of the electorate, and that's been pretty much constant.
Romney hasn't gone up much and won't go down that much.
So to pick up votes the other candidates have to attack each other.
Mostly, I think the "Not Romneys" have all been busy vying to establish themselves as the Leading Alternative. Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, and Bachmann each think, "Hey, that could be me! It's there for the taking!" And so if it can then come down to one Not-Romney vs. Romney, there's a possible path to the nomination. But it may be too late, Romney may have it sewn up, before it comes down to just two.
Mittens o’zero is no masochist .... ego-tistical, but no masochist.
I can understand why the corrupt, biased, Far Left, Lame Stream Media is giving him a pass (they want him to be the nominee) but it is perplexing why none of the candidates have taken him to task....unless....they are all hoping that if Mittens gets the nod (GOD FORBID) one will be considered for VP?
You people crack me up. out of one side of your mouth you bitch about mitt romney, but out of the other side of your mouth you cheer for newt. What a joke.
I don't believe in any "fix" or conspiracy theory. I think in '08, the "Not McCain" vote was splintered among a bunch of candidates, and McCain could win primaries with just 30%, 33% of the vote.
A similar scenario could happen this time, the "Not Romneys" splitting their vote, and Romney wins on pluralities. But I wouldn't call that a "fix."
Romney isn’t even in this race. 25% is nothing!
Its the idiots that keep jumping between candidates, looking for some mythical purity, that is HANDING it to him by default.
@%@&$# Iowans!
It’s like bumper cars and Romney is the only one laughing.
From the GOP’s POV, Romney is a safe choice. He’s accomplished, he’s capable, he’s safe.
From the Dem and MSM POV, he’s lamb led to the slaughter.
Obviously Mittens didn’t win the Rep nom in ‘08. My question is, what has he done in the last four years that made him a frontrunner now?
