The pointlessness of Mitt Romney
Daily Caller ^ | 122911 | Theo Caldwell

“Pointless … like giving caviar to an elephant.” ~ William Faulkner

Leave it to Faulkner to create a simile so apt that it reaches across decades to apply, very neatly, to the futility of foisting Mitt Romney upon the Republican Party as its presidential nominee. The image of the elephant is self-evidently appropriate. As for caviar, despite its association with money and privilege, one wonders who actually enjoys its taste. Truth be told, it is over-rated, as most delicacies are. Caviar is a lot like Marmite, only more expensive and lacking its nutritional value. So it is with Romney, moneyed and privileged, yet without much to recommend him.

Of course, the late Nobel Laureate knew nothing of the former Massachusetts governor, but ’twas always thus with a masterful turn of phrase — it can be wheeled out again and again, pertinent to any number of circumstances.

In this case, nominating Romney to lead the GOP in November, and even electing him president, would be pointless. While a President Romney may slow the country’s deterioration, and may even make good on his pledge to repeal Obamacare (that is, if the Supreme Court doesn’t drive a stake through that vampire-law first), his toothless policy proposals will do no more than delay the inevitable — that is, the end of America as we know it.

Romney supports many liberal things, but i don’t think he supports the radical gay agenda.

You have to be kidding!! First of all Romney will NEVER win, too much baggage and a whole lot of us won’t vote for him.

Second, Romney is just as bad as Obama on all the core issues. Decent president? What are you smoking?

This sounds exactly what Glenn Beck said about McCain just last year reflecting on his 2008 election loss and man he got beat up on AM radio and by a number of GOP loyalists here for it. But those words rang a bell as they do now with Romney now.

Liberal Republicans in the WH have the power to do damage that Democrats in the WH don't have by what they symbolize..

Ok, tell me why you like Romney.
What is it in all his political history would make you think he would be a great or even average president?
I am going to assume you are not aware he is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, pro government mandated health care, anti-second amendment, tax raiser to just name a few.

Can you explain how Romney would be a decant president. He is nearly identical politically to obama.
Why is it that you support him?

Romney was to the left of Ted Kennedy on the “radical gay agenda’.

He wrote this letter to a homosexual group.

“I am not unaware of my opponent’s considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”

Will you show me “hate speech”?
Just because people disagree with you does not make it hate.

I would only disagree about the caviar. Real, fresh caviar is superbly delicious. I just can’t afford it.

Romney is not like caviar. He is more like sewage.

Agreed. Or like that cheap ‘caviar’ they hawk at Vons. UGH.

Jim has a zero tolarance policy when it comes to supporting Romney. As I have said before, you could hold a gun to my head. I won’t vote for him.

You won’t either I’d bet.

Romney might get the rino nod with cross over voting and run against zero but I don’t see a lick of difference between him and Zero. Zero will simply say “re-elect me! Romney supports everything I do so why change?”

The rino party will effectively be dead. however, I fear our county will be as well.

I am really wishing for a second party candidate to support. The republicrats all stink.

What are you going to do all those years he's the president?? Just sit out there in the wilderness?

I did it with Schwarzenegger so I'll do it with Romney if need be. But measuring the drapes is mighty presumptuous. As the good book says, pride goeth before the fall
