France will be making it harder for foreigners to seek French citizenship as of January. Critics say the new requirements, which include tough language tests and allegiance to “French values”, are an electoral ploy that panders to the far right.
Foreigners seeking French nationality face tougher requirements as of January 1, when new rules drawn up by Interior Minister Claude Guéant come into force.
Candidates will be tested on French culture and history, and will have to prove their French language skills are equivalent to those of a 15-year-old mother tongue speaker. They will also be required to sign a new charter establishing their rights and responsibilities.

Texas” comes from a Caddoan Indian word. It is a Spanish corruption of the Caddo word Taysha, which means “friend.”
I’m pretty much thinking that you could take all the native Caddoan speakers and get them in one room. Spanish, not so much.

Bilingualism was not an experiment that Belgium and Canada just decided to tryout one day. The people who speak English, French, or Flemish(Dutch) happened to live there before there was a Belguim or Canada. You could argue that the uniting of two distinct nations into one is a failure, but this is not bilingualism that is practiced in France or the US.
Those damn Normans had to ruin everthing. Them and the Vikings are why we have three words to describe the same thing all the time.
We all understand the deal ~ but why perpetuate it.
Belgium is different ~ French Protestants mixed with Dutch Catholics, ~ OH MY GAWD!

The population of Caddo tribes speaking Caddoan
in Texas alone is 5,000.
Other states, LA,OK, SD, ND, AR, etc. also have Caddoan-speaking populations.

If the US tried to do this the Democrats would scream. Oddly enough, the French actually have a lot more stones than us when defending their country from enemies within. If Rev. Wright was a mullah yelling “God damn France”, he’d be deported without even a hint of a trial.
If the Muslims have their way, as they say in their holy book – they will make the “evil berry” illegal (wine), and if they are about to take the Red vin away I say off with their heads! California wine is the best, but God save French wine!
I think this is great – that France is making citizenship count. I wish we would do the same!

True. But since you may not know what ‘sentences’ you have to read or write, or what words are going to be used, before the test, a basic understanding of the language would be required to get it right..

The Kitsai language is now extinct, as its members were absorbed in the 19th century into the Wichita tribe. All of the other Caddoan languages are critically endangered; Caddo is now spoken by only 25 people, Pawnee by 20, Arikara by three, and Wichita by just one tribal elder, Doris McLemore. Caddo, Wichita, and Pawnee are spoken in Oklahoma by small numbers of tribal elders. Arikara is spoken on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota.
Speakers of some of the languages were formerly more widespread; the Caddo, for example, used to live in northeastern Texas, southwestern Arkansas, and northwestern Louisiana, as well as southeastern Oklahoma. The Pawnee formerly lived along the Platte River in what is now Nebraska.
But let’s say your numbers are correct. 5,000/25,000,000 (Texas population) = 2 x 10^-4 or .02%; a small number indeed. If you want the state to print ballots in Caddo it’s fine with me, but I think you’ll find more people are using the Spanish ones...

Sounds pretty interesting. My dad’s 1/4 Arapaho and he’d get a kick out of that. Of course since he’s 90 years old, explaining what an “app” is will take a bit of doing...
