This happened in my district when I was in third grade. bare minimum required time. Nothing more.
It sucked if you needed extra help, but on the other hand, none of the trouble makers were held after class.
probably why private/parachial schools turn out better students...the teachers are there for the kids, and school....NOT the other way around...
In other words, the union doesn't want anyone to stand out as deserving of a promotion - it wants to keep the over achievers and under achievers on the same level so it can decide which radicals get promoted. Sounds like the Leftist plan for the whole Nation.
Well, look on the bright side. At least your children will be subject to the influence of government drones at its most minimum level. I don’t think I’d want my children there at all, frankly. But if it must be, the less time the better I say.

What’s so surprising about this? It’s the union way.
The Union Credo: Do exactly what your union approved job description cites or what the union contract cites....nothing more, nothing less.
For example: You are a teacher and you walk past a piece of paper in the isle. Do you pick it up? Hell no! That’s the job of the union janitor. If you were to pick it up it would jeopardize the need for their union job. And it goes on and on and on.
Unions are the force that destroys both the work ethic and work quality of America.
There are plenty of people willing to work for top dollar and fantastic fringes without some "contract". Let 'em.
