Gingrich Kills Chapter on Climate Change in Upcoming Book (video)

He tells a concerned voter it's been dropped, but that's news to the author.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Newt Gingrich says he has killed a chapter on climate change in a post-election book of essays about the environment. But the intended author of the chapter, who supports the scientific consensus that humans contribute to climate change, says that’s news to her.

Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech, confirmed in an e-mail interview that she had been asked to write a chapter on climate change for the former House speaker’s book. She said she was approached by former Palm Beach Zoo CEO Terry Maple, Gingrich’s coeditor, at an annual meeting of Republicans for Environmental Protection. Asked to confirm her chapter was dropped, she replied, “I had not heard that.”

Hayhoe was less restrained in a couple of tweets she posted Friday night. “so much 'spare' time wasted I cd've spent w family, & 2. what an ungracious way to find out, eh?” she asked. She followed that with “Nice to hear that Gingrich is tossing my #climate chapter in the trash. 100+ unpaid hrs I cd've spent playing w my baby”

The climate-change issue arose on Thursday night at a Gingrich campaign stop in Carroll, when a woman expressed concern about the chapter. She said she had heard about it on Rush Limbaugh’s radio program. As she began to tell Gingrich who the author of the piece would be, Gingrich interrupted. “That’s not going to be in the book,” he told her. “We didn’t know that they were doing that, and we told them to kill it.”

Hayhoe, whose husband is an evangelical pastor, recently wrote a book about climate change from an evangelical perspective. In an interview with Christian writer Jonathan Merritt, she left no doubt as to where she stands on the existence or the cause of the phenomenon.

“Among climate scientists—people who spend their lives researching our world—there is no debate regarding the reality of climate change and the fact that humans are the primary cause,” Hayhoe said in the interview. “It is primarily laypeople, such as talk-show hosts, or those with vested interests in maintaining the status quo, who are perpetuating the idea that there is no scientific consensus.”

Limbaugh picked up on those quotes on Dec. 19, including Hayhoe’s poke at talk-show hosts. He called her “one of Newt’s experts” and said she believes in man-made global warming. That no doubt created heartburn for Team Newt. In a recent Pew Research Center poll, only 43 percent of Republicans – and only 31 percent of conservatives – said they believe there is solid evidence of global warming. That compares to 77 percent of Democrats. So the topic is tricky for GOP presidential candidates.

That’s particularly true for Gingrich, who infamously sat down with Nancy Pelosi to film an ad calling for action on global warming (which he has since called “the dumbest single thing I’ve done in the last few years”). The former speaker has also shifted his position on cap-and-trade and has walked back previous comments that there is a “wealth of scientific data” that warming is taking place.

The Gingrich campaign did not respond to a request for comment on this article.

Why would anyone on our side would be writing books like this with radical people like this. I just don’t understand what Newt really believes about the Global Warming issue anymore.

Algore singing Mitt Romney's praises on global warming. “Good for Mitt Romney — though we've long passed the point where weak lip-service is enough on the Climate Crisis,” Gore wrote on his blog. “While other Republicans are running from the truth, he is sticking to his guns in the face of the anti-science wing of the Republican Party.” Earlier this month, Romney told a New Hampshire town hall meeting that he believes climate change is happening and that man-made emissions are a cause. "I don't speak for the scientific community, of course, but I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that," Romney said. "I can't prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. "No. 2, I believe that humans contribute to that," he continued. "I don't know how much our contribution is to that, because I know there's been periods of greater heat and warmth than in the past, but I believe we contribute to that. And so I think it's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and global warming that you're seeing."

She rarely gets out in the world. Numerous world class scientist say that human generated CO2 causing run away warming is a false theory.

“Among climate scientists—people who spend their lives researching our world—there is no debate regarding the reality of climate change...”

So much for science!

Science requires debate. These people are frauds.

Ol Newt just makes it up as he goes along doesn’t he?

Either that or he really believes in AGW, he really believes in an individual mandate, he really believes in amnesty, he really believes in the importance of keeping Fannie/Freddie, he really believes that Ryan's health care plan was "right wing social engineering", he really believes...

I would love to hear Newt come right out and categorically say that global warming/climate change is BS and he would not support any public policy based on this notion.

But he will never do it. He’s as slick as Clinton was at “nuance” and “parsing”.

In other words, he’s no Herman Cain.

When the Man Made Global Warming doctrine began, there was the perception that it was based upon scientific evidence. Who could dispute scientific evidence? What the socialists were going to do with that scientific evidence did not look good for America. In my opinion, when Newt signed on to the Man Made Global Warming doctrine, it was an effort to get his foot into the door so he could get inside the Socialist compound. Once inside, he could trash the socialists for the threat they posed for Capitalism and America’s economic superiority. To do it, he had to pose as a Kool Aid drinker with Nancy Pelosi—a smart tactic.

Now that we know that scientific evidence was tweaked to support the schemes of a few to make a fortune off this false evidence, the entire doctrine has collapsed into the scam that it is. If I were an author who swallowed the Kool Aid of Man Made Global Warming, I would be thinking of scrubbing any such manuscripts off my hard drive.

Premier Police State Gingrich would disapprove. Be careful for the miltary black vans...I hear they are on loan for a few carbon credits from Obummer
