Is Iran Following in Qaddafi's Footsteps?
Arutz Sheva ^ | 3/1/12 | Gavriel Queenann

An Iranian parliamentarian said Tuesday that all foreign warships will soon be unable to pass through the Strait of Hormuz unless they first receive permission from the Iranian Navy ships deployed in the region.

"If the military vessels and warships of any country want to pass via the Strait of Hormoz without coordination and permission of Iran's Navy forces, they should be stopped by the Iranian Armed Forces," Nader Qazipour told FNA.

Nader said the plan will be presented to the parliament's presiding board next week. Iran's navy is drawing up a strategic plan to enforce the decision should it be approved.

His remarks came hours after Iran warned the USS John C Stennis carrier group not to return to the Persian Gulf after it passed through the strategic strait into the Gulf of Oman.

The Strait of Hormuz is 34 miles wide at its narrowest point. Under international maritime law nations may not claim more than 12 miles of coastal waters as their own.

Analysts say any decision by Tehran to close the Strait of Hormuz to foreign vessels of any type would likely be a calculated decision by Iran aimed at testing American will.

The United States Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, has said any attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which 40% of the world's oil supplies flow, would be a "an act of war."

Watch. They'll close the Straight of Hormuz in September, towards the end of which Obama will sink a couple of Iranian naval vessels. Then he'll start appearing in TV spots with a big toothy grin and a long, bushy moustache, and using phrases like "bully!" and going on bear hunts.

Is it any surprise that Iran is doing this while we’re negotiating our withdrawl from Afghanistan with the Taliban?

If I were in the Iranian Navy, right about now I’d seriously be thinking about going AWOL, either that or making my peace with allah.

Yes, the withdraw/retreat from Iraq is certainly encouraging Iran. Irrespective of what your views may be on repeal of DADT, I am absolutely certain the Iranians see pictures such as below, and are encouraged in their view that America is a weak, declining, and soft power who will not stand up to them.

The Iranian Navy may end up being the world’s largest fleet of submarines.

Sounds like a lot of Baghdad Bobbification to me.

BTW; has anyone heard from old BB lately?

I wonder if he got a job working for the Ayatollah?

It will be interesting to see if the Iranian Knights of Allah or whatever they call themselves really get their bad selves on and try to make good on their threats the next time the USN comes to call?

I have a feeling that a lot of “artificial reefs” will be emplaced on the bottom of the Sea of Hormuz if they do.

Of course we live in a funny old world, don’t we?

Should the Chicoms come to the aid of Iran, like they did for the Norks in 1950, things could get decidedly interesting very quickly - especially since quisling Klinton inc. sold them all of our defense technology, and Obama has probably been keeping them up to date with whatever (if anything) they haven’t been able to steal via. their infamous global hackery.

It might very well become an international artificial reef, with plenty of organic matter on board to feed the first aquatic occupants with. I hope they don’t mind it cooked.

Let’s just hope it isn’t radioactive.

“The Iranian Navy may end up being the world’s largest fleet of submarines.”

Speaking of which, I wonder how many fast-attack subs and boomers we have in the area...

I think Iran is too far to walk for the Chinese to interfere.

Re the Lesbo Swabbette;

Sure; she has a certain skill set, among which is the ability to french kiss her lover on the dock in public.

I’ll bet she can launch one hell of a torpedo, too!

I’ve never been in the Navy, but from what I understand from those who have it’s been a long standing tradition for this sort of thing among the male crewmembers going on below decks ever since sail was spread or keel was hauled.

They are, however, typically a lot more discrete about it.

I have a feeling that’s about to change as our new Obamaized military marches proudly along to it’s Sodomesque destruction.

Iran playing to the Shiite majority in Bahrain? With O in office, it might just work.

I’ve been wondering how long it would take us to un-mothball the Missouri.

I’m wondering if the Iranians already have a nuke. Could explain why they suddenly are becoming so brazen in their statements.

If a carrier returns to the Persian Gulf...

That’s pretty ball-zee

“un-mothball the Missouri?”

In our Military Historian dreams, Mate!

I’m surprised that the regime hasn’t had it towed out to sea and scuttled - or given it to the Chicoms for scrap.

We would both love to see those big 16” long toms unleashed on some Jihaddists who really deserve it - but I think we also know that those awesome guns have probably spoken their last.

Islam would be offended, and we certainly can’t have that, now can we?

With sabot loads and smart projectiles, a BB still could be an asset for the future. A lot of interesting payloads out there too.

It will be interesting to note whether the international community will enforce United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Here is the link for that treaty and Iran has signed but not ratified. The applicable portion seems to be Part III.

It’s either that, or street theater to reelect Obama so he’ll give them time to make a nuke.

Directly, sure. But through supply, intelligence and “technicians”? In a heartbeat.
