Prior to the EPA mandating MTBE, it was up to the refiner what, if anything was necessary to add to produce a given octane level. MTBE’s were a bad answer to an environmentalist wacko fabricated question, which is typical for what we get from government. Personally, I’d like to see the EPA shut down, and it’s employees sent to forced labor in cornfields for their sins.
