Judge rules for Walker campaign in case against state election officials (NO Bugs Bunny!)

judge ruled Thursday that the state Government Accountability Board needs to take more aggressive action to vet recall signatures that are expected to be submitted in two weeks against Gov. Scott Walker and other Republican office holders.

The ruling by Waukesha County Circuit Judge J. Mac Davis came in a case filed Dec. 15 by Walker's campaign committee and Stephan Thompson, executive director of the state Republican Party, asking Davis to order the accountability board to seek out and eliminate duplicate and fictitious signatures and illegible addresses in recall petitions.

Davis, who refused to enter injunctions in the case, based his decision on his interpretation of state law, more than on equal protection arguments brought up by the Republicans. He also said that the board must take "reasonable" efforts to eliminate such signatures.

Kevin Kennedy, director and general counsel of the board, said after the hearing that his organization would have to discuss the decision to see what it needed to change in procedures already in place.

In court, Kennedy testified that entering signatures into a database to look for duplicates could take eight extra weeks for his staff, and could cost $94,000 for software and outside help.

Steven M. Biskupic, attorney for the Republicans, argued that not catching invalid signatures violated the constitutional rights to equal protection of people who chose not to sign recall petitions.

He also cited a media report that one man claimed he'd signed recall petitions 80 times, and submitted a petition from last summer's attempt to recall Sen. Jim Holperin (D-Conover), in which the accountability board allowed a "Bugs Bunny" signature to be counted. Kennedy said the signature was counted because Holperin didn't follow the proper procedures for challenging it.

In issuing his ruling, Davis said, "Counting the signature of Bugs Bunny is something only a lawyer could make seem OK."

Recall organizers are collecting petitions now to recall Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four Republican state senators. The petitions are due to the accountability board Jan. 17, and the board is charged with validating them and deciding if recalls are wa

Sanity is slowly returning to our state. The labor union thugs who are organizing this recall will stop at nothing to get Walker out of office.

The Gov't Accountability Board (an oxymoron if I have ever heard one) is now being trumped by a judge who is ordering them to do their job and prevent the fraudulent signing of the recall petitions.

Did anyone see the blatant video of one signature gatherer getting CHILDREN to sign the petition? It is outrageous what graft and corruption is involved in this petition drive.

Is the state GAB going to be overseen by someone with an ounce of integrity, or are we just going to take their word for it?

I wondered what happened to Mac Davis. He had a couple hits I like.

Wisconsin Signature Verification Court Decision Ping!

If you want your name on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list, just FReep Mail me and it shall be done!

Kevin Kennedy is an incompetent whiner if he thinks this verification cannot be done. The Tea Party has 1000s of volunteers lined up to do this already, and so does the Walker campaign. I’m sure that the people supplying the software would allow the State to use it for the asking. They are independent and would appreciate the opportunity to run an offical test of their product.

I do programming for a living. In many cases a simple query could be written with a table join to itself looking for ‘hits’ where duplicate names are reported. Takes an average programmer 5 minutes.

Oh and you compare the recall list of names to the voter roll table and print off names that don’t get a hit. Viola! Another few minutes. Geez. I will do it for nothing.

I'm counting a number of duplicates on your part already.

Also -- run them against the felony records and deceased records in WI and IL.

You'll cut the numbers in half ;-)

Cheers!

The time consuming part of this exercise will be to enter the hand written names into the data base. That’s what the 1000 volunteers are for. The multiple sorts to identify the signatures that should be challenged should be duck soup. It’s all set up to go when the signatures are released to the public Jan. 17, but until this decision, the GAB wouldn’t have anything to do with it.

We’ll see now whether thay’ll do their jobs. I call them the Government UNaccountability Board. Sick.

Also against records in MN and IA. We get lots of license plates from both states at the polling places over here on the Western side of WI.
