Speaker Gingrich says it is false and defamatory!
Great Wire - Fox News Insider ^ | January 6, 2012 | Greta Van Susteren

Posted on 01/06/2012 8:03:28 PM PST by true believer forever

"It has recently come to our attention that your station has either been asked to run, or may soon be asked to run, various advertising spots produced by the Mitt Romney aligned SuperPAC “Restore Our Future” or Romney for President, the principal campaign committee of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Included among the Romney advertisements submitted to your station for broadcast are likely to be various advertisements which specifically mention Speaker Gingrich and purport to quote or reference the findings of a 1997 report issued by the House Select Committee on Ethics (the “Report”).

The content of these advertisements state and/or suggest that, Speaker Gingrich was “fined” $300,000 for “violations” of congressional rules. These statements are NOT TRUE. In fact, ANY statement, suggestion, or innuendo that Speaker Gingrich was assessed a congressional fine for violations of House Ethics Rules is fundamentally false and misleading. If published after your receipt of this letter, it will be a knowing publication of a false statement. As such, it represents a defamatory communication which exposes this station to potential civil liability. In turn, we do hereby DEMAND that your station immediately REFUSE, and if started, CEASE airing any such advertisements and refrain from broadcasting their content until such time as the libelous statements have been removed."

Florida voters are not as dumb as you make them. Fighting for truth is now seen as a personal vendetta? LOL! And against a KNOWN LIAR? Who are you trying to kid? It’s common knowledge Mitt smears whoever gets in his way.

Go spread your propaganda puke somewhere else and take your slur against Florida voters with you. You are way over your pay grade here.

Facts::

Gingrich admitted giving false information to the ethics committee.

Gingrich was publicly reprimanded by the House on a 395 to 28 vote, the first time a Speaker was ever reprimanded for ethics violations.

Gingrich was sanctioned $300,000.00, which he paid.

Try to spin it any way you want, but those are the facts, which team Obama would have a field day with.

Romney is a dirty sleaze bucket...first he gamed stupid McCain’s campaign and started the takedown of Palin with lies/leaks.

I’ll bet he was involved with the Cain allegations too.

Now this. I just won’t be able to bring myself to vote for Mittens...so I have to send more money to Gingrich.

The whole thing was a witch hunt, or it appeared to be, and a way to get back at Newt for what happened to Wright.

But then Newt screwed up, and did something that actually looked bad. It was the beginning of the end, in my opinion. It cut the legs out from under the entire “democrat corruption” argument. Gingrich HAD to admit that he had given bad information to the ethics committee. Whether it was an honest mistake or not, the result was that the ethics committee was misled.

And because of that, Newt had to come to an agreement. The republicans had to agree to it, because they were trying to deal with bigger issues and this was a useless distraction. They didn’t KNOW that all the other charges were going to be unfounded, or that the IRS stuff would go nowhere. What they knew was the speaker of the house had provided false information to the ethics committee.

In the end, it wasn’t a witch hunt. The republicans were in the lead on this. The ethics committee voted 7-1 for it, Gingrich AGREED to it, the vote was near-unanimous in the house for it, with most of those opposed wanting a harder punishment.

You can sugar-coat it all you want, and from a personal point of view Gingrich was mostly charged with things that ended up not having merit, although some “looked bad” which didn’t help. But the real issue is the real damage done to the conservative movement, to the republican majority, and to the attempt to bring Clinton to accountability for his actions. All of this was thwarted because of the miscue by Gingrich.

It’s why we lost seats in the house, why there was a movement to replace Gingrich as speaker, and why he RESIGNED right after his re-election.

I could certainly forgive Gingrich for this. He was mostly being railroaded, and I accept that his mistake was an honest one. But in return for forgetting the harm he did to our cause, I want him to ACKNOWLEDGE that harm, not whitewash it, sweep it under the rug, or pretend he had no responsibility at all or that anything untoward occured.

That is a bridge too far — and it’s something Gingrich has asked us to accept way too many times, with the Pelosi thing, his embrace of John Kerry’s Global Warming attacks on conservatives, his own undermining of the conservative message, his non-lobbying for the democratic powerhouses of Fannie and Freddie, and his generaly snobbish, “I know better than all of you combined” attitude.

The Truth: Eighty-four politically motivated ethics charges were filed against Newt when he was Speaker of the House regarding the use of tax exempt funds for a college course he taught titled “Renewing American Civilization.” Eighty-three of the eighty-four charges were found to be without merit and dropped.

The remaining charge had to do with contradictory documents prepared by Newt’s lawyer supplied during the course of the investigation. Newt took responsibility for the error and agreed to reimburse the committee the cost of the investigation into that discrepancy. The agreement specifically noted that the payment was not a fine, but instead a “cost assessment.” The House vote affirmed this agreement.

Today there was a report from Freddie Mac that said they paid Gingrich’s company for Gingrich, not for any other staffers, and had no interest in getting any other help.

They also gave Newt permission to release the terms of the agreement, so Newt can prove that he didn’t actually do much work for them, if that is the truth.

Dishonest people stop at telling the whole truth - that the RATs, pelosi among them, spent 3 years and over 80 charges trying to get Newt on anything they could - they finally were able to ‘nail him’ on one nebulous charge - But you all leave out the part where the IRS - of all outfits - found that the charge was NOT TRUE and exonerated Newt.

You Half-truthers make me sick...especially posting in FR

Bozell Statement: Newt Was Found Innocent Nearly 13 Years Ago – Networks Have Yet To Report It

Brent Bozell’s picture

Following the recent threats from Nancy Pelosi and the heavy brush with which the media are painting Newt Gingrich as unethical, the Media Research Center is now calling on the networks to seize the moment and report the truth from nearly 13 years ago.

It has been 4,689 days since the IRS formally cleared Newt Gingrich of any violation of tax law. It’s been 4,689 days since ABC, CBS, and NBC have had the opportunity to report it. What the heck. Why not today? Now is the time for these networks to report the truth for once. The networks owe it to the American people to report the fact that in 1999 the IRS completely vindicated Gingrich.

Between December 15, 1996 and January 31, 1997 the network morning and evening newscasts filed a staggering 244 stories. Total number of network stories on the news that Newt was completely innocent? Zero. That’s beyond pathetic.

Oh and what about CNN? We found that the cable network filed one — count ‘em, one — story. They’re probably exhausted by all that effort, so we’ll let them off the hook.

See Bozell’s column “ Newt Is Vindicated, But Nobody Knows It” in February of 1999, detailing how the IRS cleared Gingrich of any violation of the tax laws but was spiked from being covered by ABC, CBS and NBC News.

The IRS stating in writing that Gingrich was not guilty...would have ended this line of attack for anybody with any sort of ethics.

Romney is a sleaze who will stop at nothing to be President.

No, I’d rather that the facts be what the attack ads are saying, than what the truth is.

My point being (and I’m pretty sure you it didn’t go over your head) that the truth isn’t better for Gingrich in this case. Just as I’m not sure Gingrich comes out ahead arguing that he didn’t actually DO a lot of work for Freddie for all the money they paid his company.

If you accept what he claims, then you have to wonder whether Freddie KNEW that most of the work they were paying for was actually being done by underlings — especially when Freddie’s representative claims they were hiring Gingrich, not his underlings. Maybe it will turn out they knew exactly what they were getting, but politically it’s got to be better for Gingrich if that story fades away, rather than having it argued front and center again.

That’s how I feel about this. I’ve been ignoring the attacks by Romney on Gingrich. They are baseless, meaningless, and mostly irrelevant to this election.

But now the whole Gingrich ethics problem is front-and-center again, and every media outlet can drag it out for the next three days, in the guise of the “new news” of Gingrich’s “threat to sue” Fox news. The media will “debate” whether Gingrich or Romney is “more right”, and every one will make it clear that the issue is a matter of words, not substance.

That's great news. Can you provide a link? Every source that I find online has called a fine. This really needs to be cleared up.
