Posted on 01/09/2012 10:01:52 PM PST by Saundra Duffy
In a press release this afternoon, Club for Growth criticized Newt Gingrich for his attacks on Mitt Romneys career at Bain Capital, calling them unbecoming a Reagan Conservative. Club for Growths statement:
Yesterday, Gingrich said Those of us who believe in free markets and those of us who believe that in fact the whole goal of investment is entrepreneurship and job creation we find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job. Gingrichs attack was echoed that same day that by the Democratic National Committee, which also attacked Romney for his job creation record at Bain Capital.
Newt Gingrichs attacks on Mitt Romneys record at Bain Capital are disgusting, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. There are a number of issues for Mitt Romneys Republican opponents to attack him for, but attacking him for making investments in companies to create a profit for his investors is just wrong. Because of the efforts of Bain Capital, major companies like Staples, Dominos Pizza, and the Sports Authority now employ thousands of people and have created billions in wealth in the private economy. Attacking Governor Romney for participating in free-market capitalism is just beyond the pale for any purported Reagan Conservative. Newt Gingrich should stop his attacks on free markets and apologize to Governor Romney for them.
Gingrich is engaging in class warfare, side-by-side with the democrats.
newt is looking for payback for what happened in iowa. it’s personal.
Gingrich is sacrificing himself to take Romney down, imo
“Gingrich is sacrificing himself to take Romney down, imo”
That’s how it appears. A worthy objective, if Newt can pull it off.
scorched earth diplomacy, I love it.
Didn’t they change their name to “Club for Outsourcing” yet?
I guess the attacks are working :)
They are starting to cry STOP ! no fair!
who’s whining now Romney? who needs the big shoulders now Romney?
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!
When I saw this commercial I thought it was put out by the DNC and the Occupy Crowd.
Where in the h@ll does Newt think venture capital comes from for small business and entrepreneurs these days?
Newt’s venom is what is going to ruin our Country - what a small man with a big ego can do to defeat an opponent and assure 4 more years of Obama.
Newt has just shown his cards as being the perpetual power hungry beltway insider. Aiding and abetting class warfare-and he is on the Socialist’s side!!!!
“newt is looking for payback for what happened in iowa. its personal.”
Probably... but he may be bringing himself down as well. And that’s too bad because I like Newt.
and you care that Newt is attacking Romney why?
only a Romney supporter would care if and how Gingrich should attack Romney.
“Gingrich is sacrificing himself to take Romney down, imo”
By making Romney look good, he’s taking Romney down? It’s Gingrich who is going down.
Actually I think Gingrich would make a great VP candidate; he would destroy Biden!! Although Biden doesn’t need much help; he’s destroying himself.
The only thing Newt is sacrificing is his ego!
“When I saw this commercial I thought it was put out by the DNC and the Occupy Crowd.”
I know what you mean.
I just saw the trailer on Hannity tonight and actually laughed out loud. Talk about overkill, along with the dark, eerie images and creepy music. Are they kidding?
Yep so far in this primary season both Gingrich has from time to time shown the same instincts that led him to sit on that couch with Pelosi. That is part of the reason he is a non-starter.
I don’t think so.
Gingrich has watched Romney’s people methodically remove every single potential opponent since Sarah Palin, one by one, by using the communist tactics of Saul Alinsky.
Finally. At this 11th hour, someone in his campaign seems to have connected the dots for him. Now, with his huge new financial donation - he’s strong, and primed to take the fight to the dishonest, unprincipled Romney.
It just could work.
People respond to strong stands.
No Republican has shown one, in a long long time.
Watch how it’s done Republicans.
If Newt gets traction with this, then use it against the left, for a change.
No more compromising. Push back!
Here’s how I see it.
Newt had great success by basically taking the attitude that he was going to make his points and not worry about traditional tactics. He - naively - believed he could do it on ideas alone.
Then Myth and PuPaul poured $5 million dollars worth of lies into Iowa and it damaged him badly....and woke him up.
So now, it’s ends justifying means. And like you I blame him not one whit. Let Newt do what viscerally feels right to Newt. If that’s retribution and letting the chips fall where they may to take down scumbag Romney, so be it.
I was with him when he was at 3% in the polls and I’ll be with him until he hangs it up. Besides which his strategy may have the beneficial side effect of giving Charles Krauthammer a coronary.
Here come the Tea Party, game over.
My candidate isn’t in the race!
Newt makes a great debater and historian but he is making Obama’s class warfare case a platform for conservatives. Newt’s ego is getting in the way of staying on point and making small business folks like me turn against him.
How do you feel about “free trade” please?
When I hear the name “Club for Growth”, I think of Huntsman speaking Chinese at the debate.
Works for me.
“So now, its ends justifying means. And like you I blame him not one whit. Let Newt do what viscerally feels right to Newt. If thats retribution and letting the chips fall where they may to take down scumbag Romney, so be it.”
Yep, we’re on the same page. Newt is letting it all out...and it just could work.
The one that I really hope, though, is that if it works for him, he takes that strategy straight through November.
And now it is starting to look suspiciously - - and disappointingly - - like Santorum is auditioning to be Mitt's VP.
Bankrupcies and government bailouts, while investors walk away with millions.
You think that's free enterprise?
>> “we find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job.”
‘Conniving’ is the correct adjective, not ‘rich’.
How is the message that capitalism is bad going to work against Obama? That is what Obama has been saying for 3 years? And now Newt's got his back.
Can’t tell yet.
One day does not a trend make.
I’m not making any pro-Santorum posts at the moment though.
Gingrich was on a Board of Advisors for Forstmann Little, an equity firm that did the same thing as Bain.
When you are the guy who has been the greatest architect of governmental change in U.S. history, where would you do your work? In Bumfuk Egypt?
Urban Dictionary: Bumfuk, Egypt
The most remote, awful, backward, filthy, hostile place or town anyone can imagine; a location just this side of hell.
Well, I guess that describes Washington D.C. doesn't it? Can't count Newt out for trying.
A lot of people are one a lot of ‘Boards’.
Mitt Romney for all intents and purposes, was Bain.
Liberals will destroy him in the general as Gordon Gecko’s evil twin.
Not a lot of people make over a million acting as a "historian" to the central organization in the housing bubble.
You clearly are anti-Gingrich.
Now we just need to understand why.
Who do you support please?
A most unfair statement. Why do you swirl in the toilet bowl of baloney? Who are you shilling for?
no...more like newt is done so he wants to take down romney so he can keep getting $$$
bring himself down? he is in third and some states fourth
What so unfair about it. Gingrich has just launched an assualt on Capitalism worthy of Zuccotti Park in a GOP primary. What are us freedom loving people to do, just ignore it. How about his sabotaging of Paul Ryan a few months back, we should ignore that to. A few months back i wouldn’t have believed it, but the anti-Romney crowd is going at him from the Left. This has turned into the most insane GOP primary fight in the history of the party. It will set back conservatism decades, and it was all self inflicted, by candidates and supporters both. Sometimes I fill like I’m the last supporter of the Capitalist system left in the country.
I am supporting Paul, Newt was my second. When Newt is good he is very very good, but when Newt is bad .....
One just never knows what direction Newt is going to take off on. I had hoped he'd settled down and knew that he believed in but I guess not. Principles matter! Guess I am all in for Paul now.
What’s Newt’s strategy for the general, run to the Left of Obama. I can see it now, a Newt commercial attacking Obama for being stingy with welfare handouts.
I find it fundamentally wrong that a rich man can fire a poor man solely for the propose of saving money, money that the rich man has vast amounts of. If elected I will institute a local community board that will determine if the poor man does in fact deserved to be fired.
I think of bald guys talking about going swimming and picking up young women.
You got to be kidding. I’m sensing a bit of irony here, or you are posting from Havana. Is that you, Fidel.
Newt's debate clips: Why is Newt so Angry? Pass it on to everyone you know.
Newt the smartest guy in the room. And c'mon, don't you really want to see Newt debate Obama?
Ask yourself, "Why is everyone dumping on Newt?" Why was so much spent on assaulting Newt in Iowa? It's Capitalism vs Socialism. American exceptionalism vs Marxism. It's your call America!
“Where in the h@ll does Newt think venture capital comes from for small business and entrepreneurs these days?”
Look back to the story of Simmons. It’s only an example, but it’s an example of a profitable American manufacturing firm being taken private by a PE firm that destroyed it. I’m willing to bet it’s not alone.

Romney at Bain: Big Gains, Some Busts
(Comments are interesting)
Some are dumping on Newt because his stance in the Bain Capital controversy puts him on the Socialism/Marxism side.
“Actually I think Gingrich would make a great VP candidate”
Actually I think Romney would make a great Democrat.
