Unfortunately Governor Barbour, there won't be any take backs for future victims of those killers you just released.
Charles Hooker, sentenced to life in 1992 in Coahoma County for the murder of Walter Johnson, the principal at a Clarksdale high school where Hooker was a teacher.
Tammy ellis gatlin filed for divorce. David Gatlin rented a car in Georgia, traveled to Mississippi, and spent the night in a motel in the Jackson area. He bought fireworks and stalked Tammy and followed Randy walker to his home. Randy was a family friend. Gatlin then went to the home of Randy Walker asked to use a phone. Randy Walker said he didn’t have a phone. David gatlin said he would give him the fireworks for some change to use a pay phone. He pulled out the gun and Randy thought he was being robbed. Randy didn’t know it was Tammy’s husband. David said he wanted to go in the back of the home. Randy said no he didn’t. Tammy was back room with the baby. David Gatlin shot Tammy while she was holding the baby and he shot Randy in the head, but Randy lived.
Joseph Ozment was sentenced to life in 1994 for the slaying of store clerk Ricky Montgomery. The robbery happened with several other men.
One of the robbers shot Ricky Montgomery three times. He was crawling toward Joseph Ozment for help. He didn’t know Joseph Ozment was involved. Joseph Ozment put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger twice.
Anthony McCray, sentenced to life in 2001 in Pike County for the murder of his wife, Jennifer McCray, whom he shot in the back.
Barbour’s first pardon, in 2008, was of Paul Joseph Warnock, who was convicted in 1993 in Warren County for killing Carol Ann Hall, his 18-year-old girlfriend, while she slept in his bed at his parents’ house.
In 2008, Barbour pardoned Bobby Hays Clark, convicted in 1996 in Panola County of manslaughter, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Clark shot his ex-girlfriend in the neck and beat her new boyfriend with a broom handle, according to the Sun Herald.
Clarence Jones, convicted in 1992 in Warren County of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Carla M. Smith, whom he stabbed 22 times
Michael Graham was serving life for stalking and killing his ex-wife, Adrienne Klasky. In 1989, he pulled up next to her car while she was stopped at an intersection in downtown Pascagoula and shot her in the head. Barbour suspended his sentence in 2008.
