Add Bain to list of things we cannot discuss
Legall Insurrection ^ | 1/11/2012 | William Jacobson

Posted on 01/11/2012 1:45:23 PM PST by Lakeshark

Politico has a story about Newt agreeing not to go after Romney any more about Bain, and Newt was just on Hannity’s radio show on the issue. (I’ll post the audio if I can get it.)

Newt said there are three or four instances where the record is really bad and Romney needs to defend it. Newt said the challenge is not to the model but how Romney acted in specific instances, and how odd it is that Romney runs on his business record but doesn’t want to discuss the record.

Newt made the point that it is impossible to discuss the issue without being accused of class warfare by people trying to protect Romney, but the issue will come up if Romney is the nominee without knowing how much it would hurt Romney.

Newt did not back away from the issue, but said he is moving on.

You know my position. Newt is making a purely political decision to move on. Once he lost Rush and Hannity on the issue — wrongly I believe — it no longer was politically tenable.

So we will go through the primary process and possibly nominate someone with a potentially devastating electability problem. The electablility problem will not go away, we just will not find out how bad it is until September and October 2012.

So add Bain to the list of things we cannot discuss, for fear of being labeled anti-capitalist. Along with Jeremiah Wright, for fear of being called racist.

Capitalism builds and looting destroys ...

Romney was a looter, and you cannot build an economic model of growth on looting. Romney lies again, and gets caught, and everyone is yelling at Newt.

Newt is CORRECT ... The Wall Street Journal reported (as a fact) that Mitt Romney - Bain Capital often took businesses ...

.. and then (literally) financially raped-and-pillaged them ... broke them up for re-sale ... and then FIRED hundreds of employees ...

INSTEAD of trying to help get them profitable and healthy again ...

while Mitt Romney and his E-RINO buddies added to their $ 190 million dollar personal fortunes ...

Don't take my word for it ... read about it in The Wall Street Journal ...

Do you know the difference between Bill Gates and Mitt Romney ?

Bill Gates "developed" Microsoft Software products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) that GENUINELY helped mankind ...

Yeah ... Bill Gates wasn't a "Mother Thersea Businessman" ... and the software often had problems ...

but ... it is UNDENIABLE that Bill Gates "made a POSITIVE difference" ... as he agressively pursued his CAPITALIST dreams ...

"Good For Him" ...

Mitt Romney ... A (general) political failure ... more devious than Bill Clinton ... was afraid to run for a second term as Mass Gov.

Mitt Romney ... the businessman ... unlike Bill Gates ... never really did anything POSITIVE ...

Instead Mitt and his E-RINO legal-eagles MANIPULATED their way into struggling businesses ... and after they had bought them ... promptly took EVERY NICKLE they could get ... most of the time ...

And the few times they tried to rescue the stuggling companies ... Mitt and his buddies SCREWED it up themselves ...

With a $ 190 million dollar fortune at his finger-tips, you'd figure that PIOUS Mitt Romney would have an IMPRESSIVE list of charitable donations ...

echoing the charity of Bill Gates ...

especially with the "Mr. Mormon Kinda-Christian" gig that PIOUS Mitt Romney desperately clings to ...

Sadly ... Mitt's favorite hobby is keeping his EGO inflated as he spends tens-of-millions running for President ...

Romney got a good return on his money, which is the goal of capitalism. Why not attack him for his many liberal policies rather than attack the foundational belief of conservatism?

Romney’s Bain record is defensible and he is defending it well. He is the voice of capitalism right now as a result of these commie attacks by Gingrich and Perry. Fiscal conservatives are rallying to Romney as a result.

I am not a fan of Romney and I do not want this to happen. The only time he shines is when people attack Bain. Therefore I do not want Bain discussed.

the point is Romney is going to be the face of the Republican party.. perfectly legal and capitalism allows it but this is supposed to impress independents to vote for him?

the man shows no empathy for the employees who have been destroyed by some of his business deals.. with all those billions made for Bain did he ever try to help these people get other jobs?, help them continue their health insurance? anything other than good bye, good luck, I have mine see ya?

remember Dubya’s wildcat oil drilling company?.. he made sure EVERY employee he had was paid and taken care of BEFORE he ever put a dime in his pocket.. Romney is out for Romney and if he makes money helping a company fine.. but if he has to fold a business and turn the employees out into the cold he has no problem sleeping even though he knows hundreds of people just lost their living.. his response “hey it’s capitalism get over it.. to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs”.. well ok let’s see how that helps the Republicans this election year

The Bain offer to the owners factored in the fact that they would not be assuming the liability of the previous owners with respect to the depleted pension fund. That liability would remain with the previous owner.

How does one buy a company without taking ownership of its debt and instead having the GOVERNMENT take over its debt?

How exactly does that work and what on earth makes that free market capitalism?

...perhaps Newt will follow up on this latest misguided effort by attacking Santorum for being “anti-choice”, “homophobic”, and a “religious nut case”.

Newt has never said a negative word about Santorum.

And hy would Newt attack Santorum from the left when there is plenty to attack Santorum on from the right.

I think you missed the sarcasm of my post. My apologies for not tagging it. Conservatives should not be parroting leftist arguments against capitalism, and the fact that so many are doing so does not bode well for us.

“How does one buy a company without taking ownership of its debt and instead having the GOVERNMENT take over its debt?”

Simply because the new owners did not incur the debt and under the law someone depleting a pension fund is personally responsible for his sin.
Same way as someone purchasing a house with a dead body on the floor looking to rehabilitate and sell it is not ethically or legally responsible for murder of the dead person on the floor. The Federal Pension Guaranty law guarantees the pension to the union employees that work there. It exclusively runs from the government to the employees with the government reserving the right to seek redress from the entity that depleted the fund. This was a union shop with a union contract.New buyers looking to save the company and make a profit should and are not legally responsible for guaranteeing the government a past liability the government took on through legislation nor the past personal obligation of the former owner unless of course they agree to assume it.If the government wanted the law to apply to successor owners than they should have written it that way and the successor owner would negotiate the acquisition to reduce their offer by the amount of the liabilty that the gubmint imposed on successor owners to pay for the sin of former owners. Bain contributed to the pension fund after they purchased the company and did not deplete the portion they were responsible for going forward as new owners. No investor in their right mind would purchase this company with that kind of liability because there would be zero chance of making a profit going forward unless the investor was Barack Obama following his unique brand of community organizer capitalism.

“:There is a difference between private venture capital bailing out private industry and public money bailing out a union for political purposes
Romney’s company provided money for companies that were going under to save them. These were jobs that were going away sooner. They did this not out of charity, but to eventually turn a profit and the failing companies took the money to stay afloat. That is not evil, that is not wrong and they deserve all the profit they got for the risk. His attacks were not legit, and he admitted it earlier today in SC. Romney’s statement was to insulate himself from Obama’s campaign using Newt’s attack again him. Obama backed failing companies using our money and lost our cash which ended up in the pockets of the unions. This has happened time and time again only not just unions, he’d using our cash to give to his contributors so they can launder it in the form of democrat campaign cash”.

Romney himself said that both what he and Obama did are the same thing. Romney’s words not mine.

“We have a lot to dislike about Romney but being a venture capitalist is not one of them. He’s a flip-flopper on social issues and healthcare but people are starting the class envy talk around here and it’s sounding like a socialist teach-in.”

Class envy? NO..!, not class envy but crony captialism. Many captialist have crawled in bed with the guvament. They take millions and millions of dollar and send their lobbyist to congress and they buy speicial favors or “graft’, if you will. Things that, at one time, would land you in prison. These “captialist”, as you all them, take their money and they buy votes, they buy favors, they buy special legislation, and in some cases they buy exemptions so they have to pay absolutely NO TAXES ON BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF PROFITS. I challenge you to please explain that to some working stuff making 60,000.00 dollars a year.

If I were and betting, I would bet you that Bain captial has and untold number of lobbyist with suitcases full of money on captial hill today. But NO, we can’t criticize Bain Captial, they’re “godly” and “almighty” captialist. Bain Captial and Mitt Romnehy wouldn’t know FREE ENTERPRISE even if it were to rise up and punch them in the nose. But NO, we can’t speak of Bain in such a manner, they’re “captialist”.

This is what the TEA PARTY is all about, government spending. Tea partiers are sick of “SO CALL CAPTIALIST” suckig off the gov. tit. Look at the bailouts. Who got ALL the money? CAPTIALIST. Captialist were the first ones in line for the handouts. And guess who was handed the bill? You guessed it. The peons. The taxpayers. Who was protected? The captialist. Defend that my friend.

Captialist suck that “ole guvament tit” and milk it for all its worth. But we’d better not criticize these folks because, afterall, they’re captialist. If you speak out against these people your’re an anti-captialist.

“Newt has been taken to task for everything he’s done. Again, you’re starting to sound like a democrat by saying recalling Newt’s record is an attack.”

I have said on these boards that Newt has baggage and he is gonna have to take the heat for that baggage. What I don’t like is Rush and others being selective in their attacks. NOT ONE politican has taken the AMOUNT of heat on Rush’s show as has NEWT. That’s a fact. Why? Could it be that Bain Captial owns many of Rush’s radio stations? Just asking...!

“he sat on the couch with Pelowsy. He advocated for a “cap and trade”, he backed the rino in NY 23 and bad mouthed the conservative”

Newt has done and said some really, really stupid things, he will have to answer for those. Even with that baggage, I know how Newt governed when he was speaker. He governed from the right. Romney, on the other hand, governs from the left. The man is even to the left of Obama on many issues. But we must not criticize Romney, he’s a captialist. “Bull Feathers”, the mans an extreme leftist a socialst and his voting record proves it.

.” He tries real hard to be smarter than the next person and at times he’s been to cute by half. He’s a great idea person and he’s a seasoned political operative that would make a great president but his first thought is to solve problems with government.”

In some cases that is true and that’s one of the criticisms I have of Newt. I would like to see him utilize gov. less, not more. But I still think, even with his baggage, he is the best man for the job. His record while in office says he will govern from the right and not the left.

“Life is short and if you don’t like Rush, nobody is forcing you to listen.”.

You are correct, “life is a vapor”. Rush does make mistakes and he has in this case. On this issue Newt is correct and Rush is wrong. Captialist don’t necessarilly believe in Free Enterprise. If they did, they wouldn’t be at the guvament tit sucking the American taxpayers dry. That is not class envy my friend, that’s a fact.

I agree with you. Newt needs to keep the pressure on Mitt now, before we’re saddled with him as the nominee. He should call on Romney to release his tax returns. There is trouble ahead, so get it out there now.

I am tired of the pile-on on Newt and Perry.
