A bigger problem than Bain?
HotAir ^ | 1/11/2012 | KARL

The New York Times picks up where I left off, reporting on Team Romney’s reaction to the attacks from Mitt’s rivals on his tenure at Bain Capital. The news is not particularly reassuring:

Although the advisers had always expected that Democrats would malign Mr. Romney’s work of buying and selling companies, they were largely unprepared for an assault that came so early in the campaign and from within the ranks of their own party, those involved in the campaign discussions said.

Even as Mr. Romney coasted to victory in New Hampshire, they worry that the critique could prove more potent as the race shifts to South Carolina, where shuttered mills dot the landscape, unemployment is higher and suspicion of financial elites is not limited to left-leaning voters.

They should be concerned, given that New Hampshire and Iowa have among the lowest unemployment rates in the country. But many more people should be concerned that behind a facade of denial of the Bain issue, Team Romney was surprised it already came up. During the last presidential nomnination campaign, John McCain raised the Bain issue. Duncan Hunter raised a Bain issue. And Mike Huckabee raised the Bain issue, recycling a lefty conspiracy theory, but most famously in his pre-Iowa quip on the Tonight Show: “People are looking for a presidential candidate who reminds them more of the guy they work with rather than the guy that laid them off.” There is no way these attacks (regardless of their ultimate merit) should have surprised Mitt Romney or his campaign.

It’s over. Our nominee has been chosen, and the chief criteria of his choosing has been his unelectability. Almost anyone could beat Obama this time — but not Romney; hence his selection.

I am very surprised that Milts people are surprised Bain came up. What exactly are they going to do when team Obummer throws a curve ball? Some heads up organization. No wonder the Rove types love him. They are incompetent.

It seems Newt has figured out that this attack could have worked better without damaging himself. It is a fine needle to thread and it needed to be refined and targeted to hit Romney and not capitalism. It could have been done with more thought and he seems to know that now.

Time will tell who it hurt the most.

Here’s the facts:
Romney won Iowa by 8 votes (if he won at all)
NH is one of his home states
Both states allow independent/rats crossover and vote
Both states will have delegates divided (No winner take all till later this spring)

AND YET
The MSM says Mitt has won.

And the three conservatives: Newt,Rick and Rick are dividing the ABM vote.

Need to have a talk with those guys.

Remind me. How much money did the Romney Campaign spend to "explain to the citizens of Iowa" how Newt's work for Freddie Mac caused the Housing Crisis? And they're surprised that someone might try the same thing on them. Give me a break.

If the MSM and the RINO republican elite foist Romney on us then these early Bain attacks will be nothing compared to what the dems will be running 24/7 against Mitt.

Romney deserves these attacks, he got them the old fashioned way, he earned them! To paraphrase an old advertizing quip....When Romney talks, people wince.

I like Santorum but he simple doesn’t have Newt’s ability to destroy the MSM and take it to the corrupt democratic machine.

The only possible path to victory is with Newt, warts and all.

If Newt is not the nominee then someday soon all of us will be watching the first presidential debate and saying to ourselves “If only Newt was up there instead of this turkey”

We all know that the debates will be rigged (as always) and that whoever sponsors the debate will slip the questions and answers to Zero. The debate moderators will be liberals with a bunch of gotcha questions aimed at the republican nominee. Even in such a circumstance Newt will be better prepared than Zero....no matter how much he has been coached. With debate abilities like Newt’s it’s as if time stands still and he can ponder the question and answer for as long as he likes...the man is never at a loss for what to say, he never has to think to himself later “Damn! if only I’d have thought of that”

This is the time to push forward a man who can fight and win.... it simply does not matter that he is flawed. At this critical moment it only matters that he can defeat the enemy.

Make no mistake, Newt is the one they live in fear of. He cannot be controlled, he cannot be restrained, he will say the things they dread to hear and at the worst possible moments.

When Newt exercised power what did he do? what were the results of what he did? Were you pleased? These are the true measure of the man.

The primary process is simply the E-Pubs way of letting us think we have a voice in this process. It seems to be working really well, people on this Forum are regularly at each other cheering for first one loser then another.

They have made their decision, now it is decision time for us, we need to come together and fight them because, we will not have another opportunity.

Romney is not the cure he is the disease. The other candidates better get together and figure how they can derail this train to totalitarianism.

Gingrich should back out now, and endorse either Santorum or Perry.
It won't happen, because people who now call themselves Republicans are too busy repositioning the deck chairs on the Titanic, while the entire nation is sinking.

Ron Paul is not now, nor has he ever been, a Republican.

We, the people of the USA, once had a Republic.
Through a series of increasingly bad choices between the lessor of evils in our corrupted two party political system, we threw it away.

Why would you be surprised? Mitt Romney didn’t even think Brett Baier was going to ask him about Romneycare last month and got all petulant about the question. Romney and his team are an extremely arrogant bunch who think their crap don’t stink. That’s a common thread running through his career at Bain and his political (non-)career. He is an amateur with no experience at anything who coasted through life. It’s extremely easy for a millionaire to make money raiding desperate, failing companies. That’s the financial equivalent of a guy picking up crack whores in the ghetto for pocket change.

For what it is worth I just watched the 27 min When Romney Came To Town. It is a real hit piece. Certainly not going to play well in a lot of areas. If this is electability I would hate to see the definition of not electable. Bain also received 2 bailouts how will that play? Love or hate Dave Wiegel he has a piece up showing how this primary is exactly like 2008. IMHO he hit the nail on the head. How did that work. This is depressing that the republican party of Lincoln and Reagan can only come up with Mitt. Time for a drink.
