WASHINGTON Pepsi Beverages Co. will pay $3.1 million to settle federal charges of race discrimination for using criminal background checks to screen out job applicants even if they werent convicted of a crime.
The settlement announced Wednesday with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is part of a national government crackdown on hiring policies that can hurt blacks and Hispanics.
EEOC officials said the companys policy of not hiring workers with arrest records disproportionately excluded more than 300 black applicants. The policy barred applicants who had been arrested, but not convicted of a crime, and denied employment to others who were convicted of minor offenses.

This is a two edged sword. Forcing companies to hire known offenders, and especially if they have committed violent acts endangers the rest of the workforce.
In the past, law abiding citizens wanted to work for major corporations because they refuse to hire known law-breakers, in large part because the corporation would be sued if a violent employee killed or hurt other employess with the know record.....
This is literally an OBAMA-NATION in the eyes of the law (blind justice) and for use Bible totters.
That's because Pepsi products taste so crappy, they had to find something that had no choice BUT to stay and react to the foul stimuli. Adult human taste testers kept quitting.
The legal and regulatory environment - insanely stupid as it is - is one of the primary blockers of business.
This is an example of why lowering taxes is only 1/2 of the solution.
Of course, the state governments do the same thing. If you apply for a concealed carry permit in most states, they look at your arrest record. Is this unfair? According to the EEOC, it is.
The main reason the left favors such policies is that they reckon that minorities are disproportionately criminal, and they want to garner their votes. That is why they want felons to be able to vote, in spite of the regulations in some states: they know that most felons are with them politically. I think that it is because they are in the same line of work: taking from the productive citizens.
$3.1 million fine is chump change to Pepsi but the real problem here is that the company in derogation of the rights of its stockholders to conduct their own affairs just handed the keys to racialist bureaucrats.
Is the government admitting that blacks and hispanics are in trouble with the law more than other races?
1. Indra Nooyi, Pepsi's CEO is more focused on social programs than the profitability of the company.
2. They backed a candidate for president, disinfranchising 50% of their consumer base. They changed the company logo to match his.
3. They got their butts kicked in China resulting in them having to sell the ENTIRE Pepsi franchise to a Chinese partner. They were #4 in the marketplace there. #1 was Coke, #2 & #3 were companies nobody ever heard of, and then Pepsi.
4. They changed the logo of Tropicana O.J. from the straw in the orange to the stupid "panel" design.
5. They changed the name of Gatorade to "G." Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Indra won't make it through the year. Obama will hire her for something though.
“That is why they want felons to be able to vote, in spite of the regulations in some states”
All states allow felons to vote, all 50 of them, conditions vary from state to state but all have provisions for felons to vote. Some after they have served their time, parole, probation etc. Maine and Vermont allow incarcerated felons to vote.
