A group of Amish men in western Kentucky have been jailed after refusing to put reflective triangles on the back of their horse-drawn carts.
Jacob Gingerich was one of eight men sent to prison for a few days in September after ignoring state law that requires all slow-moving objects on the road to display reflective triangles.
The group of Swartzentruber Amish men in rural Graves County, USA, refused to pay their fines and disobeyed orders from a judge, landing them in jail.

This is beyond being stupid. The triangle is to let drivers see them, so they don’t run up on them especially in the dark.
It is being done for safety, and protection of their horses.
And, before anyone starts about “religious freedom” this has nothing to do with that. I’ve seen what a car can do to a horse, and it’s ugly, very ugly, and God’s noble creature doesn’t deserve to die like that.
Seems like a compromise could be found here...like instead of orange, use those silver/grey reflectors....or is the “state” demanding they be ORANGE??? (I heard the Amish don’t do “flamboyant, bright”...)

I’ve seen what happens to people who accidently kill someone in an auto accident and that’s not very pretty either. If these guys won’t do it for themselves then they could at least do it for the sake of others.
You ought to see what a semi-truck can do to a horse. Many years ago on a trip to NC with my older brother we witnessed just such a thing. It still haunts me. How the horse got loose I don’t know. It was night on a dark road. Bend in the road, the poor driver wasn’t going that fast, just couldn’t stop in time. Sounded like a bomb went off. God, what a mess.

The Swartzentruber sect are basically the “Shiite Amish”—ultraseparatist, ultraconservative, living as though it were 1659 AD.
They have run afoul of the law in many states, sometimes over transportation issues, sometimes over sewerage and sanitation issues.

A quick Google search will show pics of the poor dead horses in such crashes. And the buggy occupants fared about as well, I'm sure.
I've spent years driving in Amish country in PA and OH -- simple safety reflectors and lights are not a lot to ask.
