Newt took 1st question about ex-wife, wrapped question around John King’s neck, and tightened

John King started the night with a question about Newt’s ex-wife’s interview in which she alleged Newt sought an “open marriage.” Newt answered the question eventually with a denial, but used the oppoturnity to give King a smackdown which will be remembered for a long time.

“PS. . . Just for a moment, take women out of the equation here. . .do not forget the adult male offspring who have been affected by infidelity in their parents marriage. It’s not just women who will be opposed to a candidate on that emotional level. The kids will not pull the lever for a cheater. Too close to ho”

Isn’t that what Newt was saying last night? There is a lot of pain caused by divorce for all involved.

This question had nothing to do with Newt’s character, this was a pure and simple attempt to smear him. Nothing more nothing less. I’m just amazed to see so many naive people on these boards that allow themselves be pawns for a corrupt and incompetent press.

"....will be an issue with women and will be his downfall if he gets the nomination."

Just like it was with Bill Clinton? If you are old enough to remember, every sex scandal with Clinton increased his popularity with women. Go figure.

““He seems to do very well with women....GO NEWT”

Really? How many women do you know who were supportive when they found out their husband was cheating? And wanted them to allow it within their marriage? This logic (?) is beyond understanding. Whether or not Newt has repented, this entire discussion will bring back flashbacks of anger, not support. Pretending otherwise is foolish.”

I disagree that this will bring any pain back to those women who are HEALTHY. My ex cheated on me,,,and I got over it. It defined me as a person for a period of time and then I got past it and enjoy healthy relationships now. I am a woman and I want a FIGHTER in that White House and I don’t think Romney has it in him, Dr Paul has some good ideas but not up to the monumental task of whipping the media back into line.

I say GO NEWT!!!!

I have noticed that this thread started right after the debate at about 6:50PM Thursday, Jan 19 and has continued all the way through the night right up to now,- around 7:30 AM Friday morning, Jan 20,- with no let up in sight. Possibly some day we will all point to this debate (and this thread) as a pivotal moment in this election year.

Newt should have added: “We know there was a claim by one gentleman, Larry Sinclair - that he had a homosexual affair with BO - and the main stream media did not interview him. They should apply the same standards to all private marital and non-marital accusations.”

Glad to hear that you are healthy now. Truly. Unfortunately though, many are not ever able to let that pain go. Not the ex wives, not the ex husbands, not the kids.

I want a fighter in the White House as much as you. But he has to get elected first. Unreal assumptions about the American electorate will do us in again.

...but in the long term will be an issue with women ...

Didn't seem to hurt Clinton, who did much worse things to women (i.e., abusing and raping). The difference is that Clinton's wife came out and stood by him, and that seemed to make it okay with women. Newt's wife should do likewise if she wants to help him.

Among liberal and moderate women, what made it okay for Clinton but probably not for Gingrich is one word: abortion. For some reason, liberal and moderate women are okay with anything a man seems to do to other women as long as he supports their perceived "right" to slaughter unborn children. Never mind that those same men who support it do so for selfish reasons (not having to financially support a woman and child).

It is called repentance.

Still married to the subsequent adulteress? That's not repentance.

someone has to be the institutional memory: Newt had to resign over his affair with Callista. Republicans demanded that. memba?

Well then tell us this Einstein, who are you supporting?

I actually went to Fox after the debate, and Greta was on... She was interviewing Newt, and asked him if he thought John King had any skin left after the answer. They both laughed.

The look on King's face was priceless. There was NO place to hide.

Not only was Newt excellent, but Imho, last night may have been Romney’s worst performance.

That was absolutely the best part. King tried to palm the business off on someone else and Gingrich was having none of it. He wouldn't let them get away with it and I am sure he would put the same smack down on Obama if he has the chance. Gingrich essentially called King out to man up and take responsibility for asking the question and King wimped out. This is what I like about Gingrich. He doesn't take any crap and he throws the media's crap right back in their ugly faces.

I'm watching the debate right now, and I think Romney's doing pretty well. I still don't believe a word he says, but he's fairly convincing.

...Marianne was Newt’s lover when he was married to his first wife.

She should have talked to my great grandmother. She told her daughters and granddaughters: "If he'll cheat WITH you, he'll cheat ON you."
